Ran my first game of Urban Shadows last night, and it was fantastic! Awesome job, Andrew Medeiros! I’ll post an AP report later today, but I want to make a few comments now:

– I love the Debts system! While the players actually didn’t spend any Debts this session, the way they also work as bonds is really cool.

– All of the archetypes are really cool! Our group had a Tainted mafia heir, a Red Court Vamp (he wanted Dresden Files style vampire courts, but without the gross stuff from Red Court vamps), a Dragon information broker, an Immortal who’s actually a Carthaginian soldier who can only die when Scipio Africanus’ ring is destroyed, and a CEO king who controls 80% of Congress, more or less.

– I also love how quickly each player gets their own agenda, and how easy it is to push those and challenge them.

I did have one question though. How many highlighted stats does each character get? I couldn’t find it in the rules, so I only gave them 1. But at the end of the session, the most XP a player had was one. Should they have 2, like in AW?

  1. Giovanni, this is so awesome to hear about. I’m delighted you had fun with U-S! Your players choose some excellent concepts and archetypes.

You are correct about the highlights, each player gets two not one. This will be abundantly clear in the next version I assure you.
