  1. I like it! Could the spirit companion be an object instead of an animal? As well, could corruption be gained if the spirit companion is harmed or ignored? I ask because this playbook could also be used for Amon Hotep from The Mummy just as much as it could be used for Eric Draven and the other revenants from The Crow.

  2. Looked through it, and I wasn’t sure if the elements were there to do an iconic scene from the Crow — when aforementioned Crow is shot a few dozen times, gets up and laughs.

  3. Sean Dalziel​, I think the spirit companion is important as it’s an npc with its own agenda. Making it an object might lose that relationship between them and the revenant.

    William Nichols​, the spirit companion can drink away your pain and heal you. I see it as ‘get shot a bunch of times, aka 4 harm, and then heal with the companion’s help. Boom! You’re back up!’ 😊

  4. What if the object was semi-intelligence or a tool of communication with the spirit companion? An idol to pray to, a walking cane that only speaks to the Revenant and shows up in the strangest of places? In the end, I’ll play it how I and my MC want, wanted to offer a suggestion that expands the PB. 🙂

  5. I dig it! Both as an archetype of its own (I can play a Sin-Eater!), and as a source of moves that I would totally ape when advancing other playbooks. I do have some questions, though:

    The whole Caul mechanic seems like it excludes a couple of stories I’d be interested in telling. Biggest example: what if you wrote someone’s name on your caul, at the start of the game or otherwise, but later decided that you wanted to forgive them? Say, if it turned out they were innocent, or were forced into the situation by someone more powerful than they were? You’re not allowed to do that, unless you want to commit to becoming a Threat instead of returning peacefully to your grave. Kinda worse, if in that above situation you roll poorly on adding the real culprit’s name to your caul, you’re actually forced to offer them mercy (or just swallow the penalty and the corruption for killing them anyway).

    There’s no way of safely retiring (aside from dying) or transitioning to another Archetype with this playbook. Is this deliberate? I can kind of get that it’s more about a distinct story/character arc than most other books, but it seems an odd limit all the same–I mean, even the Spectre has the option of changing to a new Archetype.

    Bit of a nitpick, but those -2 stats are a real killer, man. Considering all the iconic tricksters present among the spirit companions, being unable to really play mind games with people until/unless you pick up Haunt the Darkness is kind of a bummer.

    On Dig for Answers, the question “Are you telling the truth about ____?” seems like a dead choice. Since the person you’re interrogating is compelled to answer truthfully already, surely you’d just ask for the answer you want instead of wasting an option on lie detection, no?

    Edit: And I do agree with Sean Dalziel that the playbook should probably address what happens when the spirit companion is harmed. I mean, they’re not exactly your Horcrux, but they’re pretty danged significant. And also a lot less removed than, say, The Tainted’s Patron.

    That’s all that leaps out at me on first-read. The rest of it looks really solid. 🙂

  6. So I’ve been seeing a lot of Raven parallels with the revenant, but what other kind of characters could you play with it? I can imagine playing a Boris Karloff style mummy if it had a jackel or scarab spirit

  7. When you kill someone on your caul, it says to advance.  Do I check the factions that aren’t checked, advance and erase everything?  Just take an advance and leave marked factions as is?  Other?
