  1. I think you have two moves, one that generates the flares and one that burns them generating the game effect. Since you are only taking one move, my guess is that you’ll get an incomplete system.

  2. Short answer: no, you can’t take Flares that way.

Long answer: neither Burn nor Flares are actually Moves (at least for the purposes of advancement); they’re categorized as Extras, like the Doomed’s Doom, the Beacon’s Drives, the Bull’s Heart and so on. You can’t take Extras from another playbook unless you have an advance in your playbook that specifically allows you to do so, e.g. The Transformed can take Doom and Doomsigns, The Outsider can take a Secret Identity, The Doomed can take Burn and three Flares, etc.

This is all detailed in the core book, in the section that explains character advancement.

  3. I would say not. Again, they’re not really playbook moves. And on a philosophic level, the team moves are tightly tied into the playbooks’ archetypal identities; if the drama of the playbook doesn’t work for you, you should probably be playing a different playbook.

Besides, the team moves tie into Extras a lot of the time, so it wouldn’t make sense for another playbook to access them. For your example, the Beacon doesn’t have a Love or Rival, so the Bull’s celebration move would do nothing for them.

  4. I like to think that making Nova flares an advancement option for one playbook and not another is merely a thematic suggestion. If you think it’s appropriate for your character, go for it. Another celebration move? Why not?
