Working on a character with a cerebral implant that remotely connects to local networks (shipboard, stationside, or planetary). This is the biggest piece of equipment the character owns, so it’s a Class 2. Mods are Class 1s; can they be upgraded? Does Connector have to be a physical connection (like Artoo Detoo), or could it be modified to Connected?

  1. As written, wireless mind-to-mind interaction is limited to the Augmented Skill “Connected”. The Connector cybermod is more of a neural jack (or physical plug like R2D2). Being able to Interface on a planetary scale is enormous, outside of the scope of even the Augmented career. (Basically, it could be game-breakingly strong, almost God-like)

That said, if it’s a matter of simply “listening” to public traffic/information and “speaking/communicating” on said networks then your cybermod could be “Implement – Broadcast”. You could combine that with the Connected skill from Augmented, too.

  2. Yeah, thought so. Character i’m working on is an adaptation of a novel protagonist with an implant that lets her monitor ship systems, local markets and advertising, menus, and messages to and from others with implants.

  3. Yeah, the “monitor local markets” and stuff would definitely be a built-in Broadcast Kit. Pretty wide range, including local space/satellite communication. Definitely an Implement – Broadcast mod. Maybe add an Amplifier mod if you want to really push the fiction of a high-bandwidth neural receiver.

As for the latter part, that’s definitely something that should happen in-game, with proper boundaries as to the power level. 😛
