I have just more or less devoured Jack McDevitt’s Academy series. Any fans here? Here’s the iconic bit of Gear from the series:
The Flickinger Field E-Suit (Attire, Class 1 Simple, Sealed)
Statistically, it’s an EVA suit. But it’s actually an energy field that protects the wearer from the vacuum of space both in terms of atmosphere (bring along some oxygen canisters) and temperature (the iconic image from the series is the space explorer walking on the surface of an airless rock in a pair of shorts and a university t-shirt).
I’ve read a few of his novels and really liked them (it’s been years so I don’t recall specifically which). I was always keen on the e-suit. Thought it was a great plot device. I like the stats you’ve pulled together. Makes sense 🙂
Now on book 2 of his Alexander Benedict series
Sounds like more or less the same idea as the holographic space suit from Guardians of the Galaxy!
