For a while I was working on a PbtA/MotW hack meant to channel Twin Peaks with a weird horror vibe, but it turns out hacks are an awful lot of work (especially when you decide to add in an entire additional optional rule set to accommodate playing a more Lovecraftian style game with “mythology” and “sanity” rules). I got about as far as creating my first playbook, The Special Agent, which I’ve since gone back and adapted to MotW. I’d love to hear folks thoughts on it!

  1. Not bad! There is nothing that immediately rubs me the wrong way, so that’s good. Some of the things I even like a lot, but if somebody had never seen Twin Peaks (gasp!), they might be a bit non-plussed as to a lot of the move titles. But that’s pretty unavoidable.

Personally, I would fine-tune the history section a little more, and get rid of Crack Shot in favor of some move that appreciates the role as an official agent with badge and standing.

  2. Very cool!

I’d suggest making a few of the moves a bit less “mechanical effectiveness” focused (all the +1 to this or that style things), and push more for the “weird stuff” side. The ones you already have there, especially the body language one, are great.

(FYI that’s a change in my own preferences… these days I much prefer moves that give the hunter permission to do a unique cool thing over moves that make them better at what they would do anyhow).
