  1. Good question, there’s even a G+ community set up to discuss the options (G+ RPG Escape Rocket, IIRC.) My standard answer is to let the host decide and the fans will follow. So, whatever platform Sean likes works for me.

  2. I’m leery of their current user base. As a visible minority in gaming, the last thing I want is to have to spend my days curating a group that’s constantly battered by American and Russian fascists.

But… what else is there? What social media group isn’t being funded by right-wing Russian propaganda or alt-right “freeze peach” assholes.

  3. Sean Gomes g+, Twitter, Reddit, and Facebook have similar levels of junky people. The privacy controls seem very good. I’ve already blocked someone!

Maybe Juan Ochoa might want to weigh in more?

  4. Sean Gomes blocks and privacy seem solid, TBH. I don’t need assholery in my fun gaming feed and it looks like things will be easy to control. Blocks are pretty much final and non-gameable, for one, and having no “public” stream helps one avoid the sort of stalking and harrasment seen here.

  5. Sean Gomes I’m going to think it over from an ethical perspective though. Privacy is good enough to avoid ugly stuff from users but the corporate stance is despicable.

  6. In the race for staking out new ‘territory’, MeWe has the lead on the groups that I follow. While it would be convenient for me, I won’t ask anyone to bend their ethical stance. Freedom is messy.

  7. After testing out MeWe for a bit, I’m not sure I’m going to move the community there. It hasn’t won me over.

There are a handful of community people that have yet to make a decision, and I greatly respect their opinions on this matter (the Bakers, for example). So right now I’m in wait-and-see mode.

  8. I have to say a number of groups I belong to on Google+ have migrated successfully to MeWe, including one with over 11,000 members! Lots of positive comments so far by the groups that have gone there.

  9. It looks and feels good to me so far. I’m genuinely curious what you don’t like about it Sean Gomes.

I’ve heard about the white supremacist fuss from Cordova but while I understand what he means, I also understand the desire of the creator of MeWe not to censor any content.

There’s hater everywhere and while I don’t support that type of comments, I’m just not going to join those groups so it doesn’t really matter much to me.

  10. Score card: Right wing hate from MeWe = zero, Left wing hate from Facebook = dozen or more every day. I’ll give it a month, after all, we still have plenty of time. But, because of the private nature of the groups, I don’t expect it to change.

  11. Interestingly, the RPG groups are all open so anyone can join. But they can be shut down in a second. I made Market in the Woods to require two questions answered in order to join, just to ensure people know what rpgs are

  12. As your friendly neighborhood webmaster, would you have a preference for what Forum/Message Board/Social Thingy app you would prefer on the UW website, if that was the decision that was made by Sean? I can install/configure/customize pretty any standard app, and this makes it sure that the community won’t be shutdown when a third-party platform changes it business-model.
