Michael Sands Not quite certain how to write a mystery about them…An Island of Doctor Moreau homage?
Mark Tygart I admit, I have only used them in medieval settings (Torchbearer, Dungeon World, etc). Another possibility would be a lost world or hollow earth source- what’s driving them back to the surface?

Michael Sands Some of these guys show up in C.S. Lewis’ Voyage of the Dawn Treader. I don’t know if any made it into the movie. Very medieval. Maybe a “Lost” style adventure would be the thing for a “modern” mythology.
