Hi, i’ve two questions regards limitation and bonds.
1) During the creation of superhero i can take limitations in order to have more bonds but which is the ratio ? How many limitations i need to gain one bond ? Looking at the manual i see a reference table but when it say “Actively ostracized by most” how many limitations are ? How many bonds and powers i take if i choose one limitation ? and two ? and five ? and so on…
2) Later in the manual it says that I can remove a limitation from a power using an achievement point, but this means I have to give the limitation to the power?
thanks 🙂
1) Since it’s way harder to come up with a system that quantifies all kinds of Limitations and what they mean, we just went the easy route. How a character is treated and accepted by the people around them is what’s important, and you determine that with the table. Why that is the case (what the limitations are) is up to the player. It might be just one big reason – like they’re a grotesque mutant. Or it could be a bunch of things, like being bad with people, having a bad reputation and being famous, and so on. The number of extra things you can write in your Powers Profile depends on how well they fit in, and can be read off that same chart, and the number of Bonds is there as well. If you’re asking if there is anything between the levels in the chart then no, there isn’t. I guess if you and your group want to come up with your own levels though, you could certainly do that.
2) Yeah, you would only remove a limitation by spending Achievement points if you had a limitation in the first place. If Superman had one of his limitations listed as Kryptonite, then they might save up some points and use them to remove that limitation (provided it made sense in the fiction), for example. Or the grotesque mutant might go through a lab experiment to look normal, etc.
So I can list ten different limitations and still fall within the category “Occasionally difficult” or only one big limitation and be “Actively ostracized by most”? there is no correlation between how many limitations i take and the number of Bonds Points/Powers i get ?
Right. The stuff in the table is what’s important for the mechanics of it, limitations are there to make the choice of where they fall on the chart make sense, and to make sure that the EIC can still make situations and enemies the PC faces feel dangerous.
Awesome that’s explain a lot 🙂 Thanks for your answers
No problem, let me know if you have any more 🙂
