The Student

Concept: You learned your powers. At school!

Setting presupposition: There semi-secret groups who just have powers. Think Wakanda, Atlantis, The Inhumans

Teenage Archetype: Why do you waste your talents like that, kid?

Suggestions welcome.

As there are loveletters about “fate” going round, here is one for a young hero who tempted it.

Dear Skele-Girl,

on your way home from the precinct, all of these happened:

– a piano fell towards your head.

– a firefight between to rivaling gangs started, just when you were crossing the street, catching you in the cross fire.

– a train rushed toward you; the traffic lights were malfunctioning.

– the milk was sour, when you came home.

Tell us what of these might kill you and if so, how you escaped. If you were threatened by more than half:

– Mark a condition, take experience, shift Mundane up another label down.

Otherwise:

– Shift danger up and another label down.

Love, your GM.

I’m thinking about a hack for transhumanist sci-fi.

I’m thinking about a hack for transhumanist sci-fi.

I’m thinking about a hack for transhumanist sci-fi.

It would take place in The Habitat which might be a space station, domed city or similar enclosed living space. The Habitat is controlled by The Overmind who can create things out of thin air and do other wondrous things, but is mostly unresponsive. I’m thinking of something like the Freemarket RPG, which, I think, doesn’t work, or some of the fiction for orionsarm.com like ‘Head of the Herd’.

Players would form the needs of and factions within the habitats by choosing playbooks. I’m thinking of…

The Faithful who revere the Overmind

The Adapted who live at the fringes or outside the Habitat

The Formless who make a point of not sticking to a body

The Originals who were already here and might not be human

Moves I have in mind…

When you broadcast for help, name the values you appeal to and…

When you create something original… (basically Workshop)

When you request something from the fog…

When you investigate a person…

When you get physical…

I’m not yet sure how to help the Overmind (MC) create interesting events. The needs of the habitat and inter faction rivalries will certainly play a role.

And I’m not yet sure about how the PCs would interact among one another. I think this might be the most important thing.

Thoughts?

Yesterday I’ve looked through the Deck of Villainy.

Yesterday I’ve looked through the Deck of Villainy.

Yesterday I’ve looked through the Deck of Villainy. I enjoyed it a lot, especially the various drives. But one thing surprised me: When I made the villains for my campaign, I always made villain teams. That only occurred to me, when I found the villains from the Deck being all loners. They may team up if course, but they are created separately.

How do you do it? Can you see a difference between these approaches?

How does the Brain’s “Always prepared” work? I mean, what’s the advantage? I feel like something is missing there.

Also I like how every other move revolves around Influence. Kenzi / Heart-Shaped-Pupil of Ward is so much a Brain.

I’m think about an arc where the villains are amassing troops to prevent a possible alien invasion. Basically, a cabal, possibly led by diviners, who insist that authorities aren’t doing enough. They have acquired materials to produce more parahumans. There is some collusion within the established heroes. They will try to rally the public next.

I can’t quite figure out whether this corresponds to one of the arc arche types in the book.

Thinking about handing out, some adult heroes for a scene or two. Has anyone done this? How would you do it?
