I’ve had the basic outline of a fantasy knocking around on my computer for a while now. The idea was a West Marches style Dungeon World game.

I prefer the character creation style of UW though, I think it lends itself to more flexibility and diverse and interesting characters.

That said, I’m fairly sure that Sean Gomes has said in the past that he doesn’t want to do a complete fantasy version of UW precisely because of the possibility of stepping on DW’s toes. (And correct me if I’m wrong on that, Sean.)

So my questions are: has anyone here used UW for fantasy? Did you add in home-brewed rules or did you just re-skin what was already there? How did you find it and what did your players think?

Up to my usual tricks of using UW rules to make slightly more unusual characters.

I’d mentioned to a friend of mine that I’d been thinking about UW again and realised you could no only use the same rules, but the very same CHARACTER and they could fit in equally well in a Crimson Skies game as a Disney’s TaleSpin game.

So I started making one. It all went fine until I got to his Class 1 and Class 2 assets. I’m completely drawing a blank, aside from possibly a meshweave pilot’s jacket or something. Anyone have any ideas?

So it’s a melee weapon, if you give it the “thrown” upgrade, it covers a number of small, thrown weapons. Eg. Throwing knives or something.

If you are making it a single weapon, could that weapon still be thrown? Say a hammer or something? So you could use it as a melee weapon or a thrown weapon?

Also, if it was to be used both ways, could you then give it the ricochet upgrade for getting it to return to you?

(I may have been watching Thor last night…)

Cheers everyone.

Hey everyone.

Hey everyone.

Big UW fan, have managed to run two sessions so far of a game after about a year of trying to work around various D&D games to get my friends to play.

(If you’re interested in that game it’s all here: https://unchartedworlds-1.obsidianportal.com/wikis/main-page)

What I really love about UW though, is that you can really do anything with it.

Anything.

So just for fun, I made an Auror.

Now, however hard it was to get people to play a scifi game, there’s no hope of a Harry Potter SciFi game, but one of the lads said he’d like to do a Spelljammer type game at some stage. If he does, I think I have my character ready.

Have a look and let me know what you think.
