Is there a move set somewhere that works for aero/ space fighter combat? I could probably get away with using the basic battle and road war moves (save for boarding, clearly), but I’d like to see some more ideas.

Is John Harper’s Colonial Marines reskin of The Regiment (link: http://mightyatom.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/the-regiment-colonial-marines-25.html?m=1) a good choice for some XCOM fun? If not, why not? I’m basically lining up the moves for aliens as I type. Kinda thinking that doing XCOM 2 would be good fun, with the Avenger and a scrappy resistance against the aliens that took over the world.

Quick and dirty hack. Very lo-fi.

Quick and dirty hack. Very lo-fi.

Four stats basically corresponding to physical, mental, social, Weird. No list of basic moves, just roll what seems to fit. Three points to hit: good, cheap, fast. A 6- gets you one, 7-9 is two, 10+ is all three.

Good means you get the job done fully. The search is thorough and gets all the evidence. Not a single one of those scum-suckers will make it home. This engine is fixed, and will not break again unless you break it.

Cheap is obviously cost. You had to bribe the cop to get past the tape and into the office, that’s money you won’t see again. Those thugs are down, but they left you something to remember them by. Spare parts? Yep, used all of them.

Fast is narrative, but also an MC cue. It says the player retains the initiative. Sort of like insurance against a MC move. You’re in and out of the office before the cop comes back with his cup of tea, now what? You blaze through the goons – what’s next? Hyperdrive is back online, punch it!

In this hack you don’t fail because of a bad roll, you fail because you made the choice to not pay the cost.

What say you?

It is dark, and cold, and wet.

It is dark, and cold, and wet.

It is dark, and cold, and wet.

It has been since the sun died. Now it’s an evil rip in the sky surrounded by a halo that poisons all it touches. But that’s not too often, because the clouds hang low and rarely part. So it’s always dark, and it’s always cold, and it’s always wet.

The dark robs you of knowledge and leaves fear. There are things out there, but light would make you a target. The cold numbs you from the outside in. A man may even welcome it as a form of respite. These men cannot be trusted. And everything is wet. Slick, slimy, fetid, source of mold, feeder of plants that rip and tear buildings over weeks, swarming with tiny sickening creatures. But who can survive without water?

Just felt like sharing.

I had a daft idea.

I had a daft idea.

I had a daft idea. Pared down to the utter basics, it goes: how about Babylon 5 using the standard AW playbooks, minimally hacked?

You’ve got a space station controlled by the Earth Union, but paid for by the Negari. You’ve got the oppressed but recently expanding Garn, and the sophisticated but declining Senetari, and watching from the corner, the mysterious and terrifyingly advanced Xoren. Or whatever other mix you come up with, it’s your game.

Your playbooks define your various species. Maybe the Garn player chose Gunlugger? So the Garn have natural armour as a species trait. As to actual hacking, I’d knock the Harm clock down to three or four segments. Maybe Barter represents Credibility. Ignore your own government and their demands (not “paying” them the Credibility they require) and you’re at risk of being replaced.

My real question here is: can this kind of diplomatic game with everyone on different sides work as a game to play together?
