Does anyone have any suggestions for getting across the lore of the universe to the players?

Does anyone have any suggestions for getting across the lore of the universe to the players? Some things will emerge naturally from play, but I want to help create the feeling of a history to the monsters they hunt with in-universe texts.

Hi all.

Hi all.

Hi all. hoping to start a small Boston face to face group for an ongoing pbta game. I was thinking Monster of the week or monsterhearts or urban shadows or masks would be fun but I’m open to running others if everyone else wants it.

If anyone is interested and lives in the Boston area let me know.

I was thinking we could have weekly meetings at Pandemonium or somewhere else depending… but finding a location shouldn’t be too difficult.

If anyone is interested let me know and I’ll set up a meeting place.

Anyone know of a good source of monsters around the world that could serve for inspiration for monster ideas?

Not sure if this is an appropriate place to post this, but I’ve noticed the MotW subreddit hasn’t had any new posts in about a month. It’s not a huge community, but it used to get a few posts a week. It has suddenly it stopped getting new posts! I tried to create a new post and I got the alert saying “you’re not allowed to post here.” I wonder if others are having similar difficulties posting to the subreddit.

Apologies if a post like this is inappropriate for this page.

New to MotW but I had to bite when I saw it. Just some quick questions for the community:

I’ve played DnD for years but I really like what I’v’e seen with this. There are differences though, obviously. What should I pay attention to when creating content? For example, do long form or short form mysteries tend to be better managed? Should it be a mystery as opposed to the classic ‘Adventure?’

The game rules state that a party can only have one of each hunter type. What sort of impact does this have? If I wanted to homebrew a narrative for my players akin to Stephen King’s ‘It’, would that unbalance the system?

Any other ideas or the like are totally welcome and appreciated, excited to jump into this

So, I’m starting a new group of players with MotW.

So, I’m starting a new group of players with MotW. We are planning on doing a longer term campaign and I’ve Dmed MotW quite a few times already for a group of experienced RPG players.

I’ve run into an issue with newer players that didn’t come up in my old group. How much world building do you roll with from the players? I want them to. Be invested in the world so I obviously want them doing some of the world building and lore stuff. But I have one player who essentially just took a character from Supernatural and inserted them into our campaign/world. And when I say inserted I mean, their backstory literally involves the Winchester and their main antagonist is a primary antagonist from the show and that the battle between angels and demons and other angels is going down.

That wasn’t necessarily what I was hoping for, but is it a huge problem? Do I try and roll with it or do I make it clear – this isn’t that world, but there are similarities?

Should I do anything about it and if so, what?

I have to admit MASKS has been taken up most of my time so I just am getting to reading MotW.
