re: Sunsetting of consumer G+

Just to let people know that I don’t see myself creating a Monsterhearts group or community on any other social media platform. If one or more people do want to do so then please feel free to discuss and announce it in this community.

I’ll keep this community open until G+ turns off the lights if people want to save links to skins, scenarios, etc.

Hello everyone!

Hello everyone!

Hello everyone! So, I’m playing the game for the first time now and my Infernal just got the move The Clique from the queen. I’m not used to playing with a gang so I’d like to get some advice on what interesting things I could/should do with them. Oh, by the way, I chose the cultists for the type of gang, I figured bringing them to the Dark Power would be quite easy this way, and me having the move Dark Recruiter is a nice bonus

Hey guys, the summer’s here! So, I’ve decided I wanna GM a discord play by post game of 2nd edition. Monsterhearts is one of my favorite games, and I’ve always wanted to GM it, but I haven’t been able to find the time to dedicate to a weekly voice game, so I decided to do a play by post one instead!

If you’re interested, and you think you’ll be able to post at least a few times a day, please shoot me a message on my discord Neo#5451 (we’ll be playing here). Or, shoot me a message on here.

kinda having trouble wrapping my head around the “Lash out” move.

kinda having trouble wrapping my head around the “Lash out” move. specifically, what is meant by “The MC decides how bad the harm turns out.”

kinda feels like I (The MC) just choose how much harm the victim takes, but is there some other meaning behind it I’ve missed, because there’s a guide to how much harm things should do.

Gauntlet Hangouts

So, over at The Gauntlet, we run a whole heck of a lot of games every month. At the moment, we have 214 sessions scheduled on Gauntlet Hangouts through August (and we have barely started putting things up for August). Many of those sessions are for Monsterhearts 2, a game we love and play a lot.

Our community takes the act of playing ttrpgs very seriously. We teach each other, we support each other, we celebrate each other. Our open table play culture is all about creating space for new people to get involved; you never have to have experience with a particular game, and you can attend even if you can only make a session or two. No experience with online games? Doesn’t matter–we want you here. You’ll get up to speed very quickly with a group of fabulous people who will support you the whole way!

For more info about Gauntlet Hangouts, check the link below. More $7 Patreon spots will be available July 1st!

I just wrapped up a 10 session campaign of Monsterhearts 2ed. And while I wish to take a break from MCing for a bit. I was wondering, how well do the skins from 1st ed. transfer over?I have a ton of playbooks printed off for fan made skins. And some of them I’d love to use as options for the next game . Just to throw some variety into the mix. But if it requires major rejiggering. I think I’ll pass.

Hello, I was wondering, that if anyone had any spaces open, I could join?

Hello, I was wondering, that if anyone had any spaces open, I could join? Two other groups I was in have been on a really long break and I am in desperate need of RP. If anyone uses discord and needs a player, my discord name is Loose Sock#8901

I ran my first game of Monsterhearts yesterday and it was an absolute blast!

It was a oneshot set in a boarding school in Scotland. I’d had a hard time getting very trad-oriented people in my local meetup group to understand the pbta style, but as soon as we started filling up the classroom chart, I knew it was going to be good!

The Werewolf was the star of the girls’ lacrosse team and ended up facing off a bunch of vampires after one of them killed a boy from their class. After that she went on a killing spree and was eventually calmed by the Mortal who was in love with her and they ended up in a serious relationship.

The Infernal, who fancied the boy killed by the vamp, sacrificed her best friend to the Loch Ness monster in order to get the boy back from the dead.

The Ghost, who was initially bullied by the most popular girl, went on to screw with her mind constantly and ended up possessing her body permanently.

The only gripe we had was that it was a oneshot. We had to wrap it up early but everyone said they wanted to play more of MH.

The game worked perfectly and I’m so happy right now because the experience was both very emotional and a lot of fun!

So, season almost finished (we decided we need one more session after grand finale just to set up some things for season 2) and I wanted to share some of my expirience MCing Monsterhearts.

First time I played MH was one-shot at a convention about a year ago, and it was by far most fun and emotional expirience of 2017, so I was dead set to play or MC season or two. And early this year we started a game with three of my friends.

I know that I’m kinda slow-paced MC, so it took us 2-3 sessions just to establish setting and main threats. And at this point I decided to experiment a little. I personally just love idea of clocks from Blades in the Dark, so I used linked clocks to track the story developement. One of the main clocks was kinda experimental. Usually you tick clock when players do not react to threats or miss their rolls. But I decided to make a clock with title «It’s all your own fault!» and tick it whenever players’ characters (or even players themselves) said or done something with this idea behind. For example, somebody said «Todd is an outcast and looser just because he chosen to be one!», or «You totally provoked me to hit you!», and I tick the clock. And after I filled the clock to some segment, I started new, additional one, like «Todd had enough».

Eventually, this whole thing turned out to be just perfect for the game. The players were in the right state of mind to face the consequences, they even unintentionaly helped me to stage some dramatic moments, like Kate, the Ghost, who desided to deal with her mother issues right when she found Kate’s dead body hidden in the closet. Then there was pretty grim scene, whith Kate stabbing her crying and praying mother with knife and the remains of broken bottle in front of all the neighbours. At the same moment Arnold, our Queen (or King?) was throwing a party at the school roof and didn’t know, that the boy he bullied was going upstairs with the shotgun…

Overall, I loved the whole expirience, and I think this game works best with this type of clocks. Choose the question you want to ask your players and make a game from it. «How much can you blame the victim?» was the question of our season, and just pushing players towards the answer was enough to make a story. Yes, that was sometimes ugly story («Real Monsters» all the way), but an interesting one. I’m going to try something like this in the next season, maybe with more dangerous topic in mind.

So this was my experimental run. What do you think, was that a good idea?)

P.S. I had translated some of the playbooks to Russian for my players, so feel free to ask if you need one ^_~
