•04/03/2018: Rewrote Personal Project and workspace to give Intellect more distinction and scope from other Archetypes’ Personal

Projects.

•Increased cost for Redundant Systems on Ships to 3 Upgrades to reflect their usefuleness and encourage more varied decisions.

Impulse Drive 3.5 is here.

A lot of the changes in this version have been a direct result of discussion and questions in this community and on the Discord.

Harm has also been modified to make the Recover Move more useful during dangerous and violent scenes.

17/07/2017: Rewrote the Assist Move to be Lean on Me, and gave it more fictional flexibility.

Rewrote description for Act Quick to give it more fictional flexibility.

17/01/2017: Changed references of Medical Treatment to Surgery in regerds to Harm.

Change references to “gathering your wits” to “Shrug it off” in regards to Harm.

Added “Shrug it off” method of healing to “Just a scratch” Harm option on character sheets and Recover Move.

Removed First Aid from “Just a Scratch” and “I’m Rattled” Harm options.

Removed nested terms in Recover, it is now much clearer how to heal the various types of Harm.

Rewrote Autodoc Surgery to reference modified Harm rules.

Rewrote Tactical Pack to reference new Harm rules.

Renamed Intellect Move “Medic” to “Field Surgeon” and rewrote it to fit new Harm rules.

Added Warhose starting Move: “Juggernaut”. Move old Starting move “Stoic Wall” to Warhorse Moves.

Changed “Tactical Advantage” Move on Warhorse to “Gunner” Move.

Added spalsh images to handouts to differentiate Moves pages from each other more easily.

16/05/2017: Modified Oncoming Storm to prevent a short and disruptive cycle of gaining Storm and Stress.

28/05/2017: Added Intellect Move, The Kovacs Paradigm.

Combined all Handouts into 1 document, added a table of contents and a reading guide.

08/06/2017: Created Pilot Episode Quickstart document to make playing Impulse Drive for the first time or for a one-shot faster and easier.

Changed Archetype Special Moves to be named after the particular Archetype, to avoid confusion with Special moves in other sections of the rules.

Rewrote sections on gear slots, changed starting Gear so that all Archetypes start with 3 items of gear.

Added rules for Chameleon and Tactical cloak to Infiltrator’s Background moves for easier reference.

Added Liquid Assets rules to Villainy Background on Scoundrel Playbook.

Changed references to Payday to better reflect Ship Payment Moves for clarity.

-Signature Move on Infiltrator has been rewritten, from Infiltrate to The Set-Up

-Mather Thief Background rewritten to give an Advance when the Infiltrator steals something of significance to themselves or someone of influence.

-Move for Chameleon rewritten. Move for Tactical Cloak rewritten.

-Advanced Moves are now called Special Moves. Universal Advanced Moves are now called Extra Moves.

Mostly this is quality of life changes that remove ambiguity in many situations.

01/03/2017:

-Removed legacy references to med kits and repair kits.

-Rewrote Hooks for various Hooks to make them more evocative and engaging.

-Made it more clear what a Background is, and rewrote parts of several Backgrounds.

-Rewrote instructions for writing Foibles at character creation.

-Created and introductory page for the Archetype and Ship playbooks.

-Made the writing of Foibles as optional when directed to do so by a Calamity or Move. Directions now read “You may write a Foible”

Impulse drive Version 3.1 is now available.

Overall, this is a subtractive update. Ships and vehicles have been simplified. The Ship Playbooks have more limited choices in regards to upgrades, but are more evocative of different spacefaring lifestyles. Taking action while operating a Ship or vehicle now refers players back to interpreting their actions through existing Basic or Advanced Moves. These changes have greatly reduced the number of handouts and rules players need to keep track of.

If you are currently in the middle of a campaign, the most recent version of the 3.0 rules are still provided in the “Old Version” Zip file, in case changing to 3.1 would be too disruptive for your group.

Thank you to everyone who has shown interest in Impulse Drive, and has persisted through its changes and offered feedback. Every iteration of this game feels better because of the feedback I receive.

There’s probably a bunch of legacy junk I need to clean up, particularly in Vehicles and the SM handout. And I still need to heavily edit the book. hwoof.

I think I’ll keep the 3.0 version in the list of files on DTRPG for a while so that people already running a campaign with that version will still have access to that version.

First draft for the first 2 ship types. The traditional smuggler ship with a large amount of debt, and the new Predator, a ship of dangerous and professional mercenaries, with a nemesis they are in open conflict with.

The Ships having slightly different moves and different upgrade modules is really saving on space and making them feel more unique.

I have a Normandy-style spy/special agents stealth/duty ship planned, a larger vessel with a “soldiers in a losing war ” theme, and a straight up marauder pirate bad guys ship planned.
