One of our group shifted from Legacy to Harbinger between seasons as he was ripped into the future. His memories have been hazy but with a big battle ahead we decided to use Microscope to see what the grim, dark future would be like.

The photo cards are all the PCs and NPCs and where they died in this future. All apart from Tyr who is our clueless former Legacy back in the present to change things (he reappeared in the pink post it on the top left of the first photo). Oh and King Karbon, the ruler of the Periodic Table of Evil, who destroyed reality by wrecking physics at the end of the timeline.

This was great fun, kind of like getting to wreck all the toys we’ve built in our first two seasons of Masks. Now they need to make sure it never happens this way.

I’ve also written up season one, including details for each of the villains in case people want to harvest them for their own campaigns. http://www.whodaresrolls.com/rpgs/masks-season-one/

I don’t know if you lot noticed yet, but Jackson Tegu’s site has been updated with Second Skins adapted for Monsterhearts 2. There’s also the free Selkie skin on there. I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve been eager to see the Cuckoo back in my MH games again.

They tracked Helium Horror to the North Halcyon Wildlife Reserve which was transformed into a prehistoric jungle years ago. He was tweeting #totesgonnafloat and other threats which got the gang’s attention. They saw a school trip out there, tried discovering who Helium Horror was and spooked everyone instead.

They found a group of villains fracking the park and their main guard, Bear Arms. He was a giant of a man with bears for arms and those bears were armed with guns.

The kids were saved, but Helium Horror got away and Bear Arms retreated to inside the fracking facility. He’ll be the threat for next week.

Extraordinarious was beaten up by a fourteen year old, Stalker fell on his face and Apollo learnt that human kids can be mean.

We also had the first mention of the head of The Periodic Table of Evil… King Karbon!

They’re a Newborn, a Nova and a Transformed, so they all started with a high Freak and low Mundane.

Their hangout is a small island which was a monument to a golden age hero who’s long since been forgotten and no one visits. They created Plutonium Joe as their first villain and hints at the Periodic Table of Evil as a supervillain organisation.

Apollo, The Newborn, freaked out at his co-creator, Dr Irons, showing up at a factory going through a meltdown. He froze at the wrong moment and couldn’t fight back or flee.

Extraordinarius!, The Nova, teleported out of a nearby top hat and blasted Dr Irons, only for Apollo to get in the way. They had some long words after the mission about that.

Stalker, The Transformed, managed to talk down the villainous Edgelord and they all bonded at a Vietnamese restaurant/theatre called Pho Sho.

I’ve been enjoying my Blades in the Dark campaign, but it was really good getting to be in a daft-yet-dramatic superhero world.

I just finished my first game of Masks. My group were:

Quick Shot aka Todd. A Beacon who saw heroes in action and started using his archery skills for superheroism. The football coach/mentor of the team doesn’t believe he’s up to the task. He likes Amelia and his parents adopted Tom.

Dr. Amatic aka Amelia Rate. A Doomed who was experimented on by Medi-Evil, a mad scientist who wants to Moreau people. She is attracted to Tom and Tito, but not Todd who she sees as a sibling (ouch! Right in the adolescence!)

Tito Vasquez aka Vibez (named by Todd). A Delinquent who doesn’t like the others but has to stand up for his kind.

Tom Hart. A Bull and jock whose mother gave him to Medi-Evil for experiments. He was saved by his dad who died in the rescue. He likes Todd but had difficulty showing it in the session

It was a really fun game, although I think we’ll do better now we know how the influence economy works. We had a couple of hours so we did character creation and a scene at a mall with a pair of villains:

Girl Huntsman was a military sniper once saved by a Golden Age villain. She took his name when he was killed by a superhero and declared war on powered heroes. She was dressed as an insurance-selling tiger in the mall and nearly set off a power-suppressing bomb.

Then there was Pillbug Pete, a man in giant woodlouse-themed armour who was robbing a bank. He rolled through the floor, buried people and was ultimately pitiful.

In fighting these guys, Vibez was affected by several of his own emotion blasts, fled the mall and remained outside so it seemed like he meant to leave. Dr. Amatic got a text mid-heroic monologue and replied to it, too (damn kids). Everyone made fun of Quick Shot’s ice arrow and ignored that his bola-arrow tripped Pillbug Pete. Good times and hopefully there will be more games including the deadly Medi-Evil!

The book was a great help at pointing out wrestling details to someone completely ignorant of the subject, but I still didn’t feel confident to run a game of it. I’ve started listening to this podcast which has really been inspiring me in my plans for a gritty prestige TV style wrestling game. I thought I’d share in case there were others in the community like me.

Well, for a short session a lot was done.

Well, for a short session a lot was done.

We were using the collaboratively-made setting we’d built for Dungeon World.

Steven Mileham played Master Hornbill of the Small Council of Wall. He arranged for assassins to encourage dissent in the temple district and highlight the need for more private mercenaries.

Alexander Andersson played ‘Nobody’ who ran The Black Fist mercenary company. He got his crew hired and saved the day by killing rioters.

Jacob Collins played Prince Albert of Wall, planning with an elite cabal to murder the king and anyone not of their order. He ate, drank, arranged a tourney and turned the riot into an opportunity to burn refugees and blame the temple the commoners have been worshipping at.

luke strstford played Fallow, part of the dream readers and torturers who turned the temple of Allana into a scene from Saw. She accidentally revealed to her victim where her loyalty lies (the small council) and escaped mid-riot, assuming the priestess would die in the deathtrap. Nobody (the person) rescued her thanks to his handy mercs.

We made a map of the city of Wall. The lower half is a view from the sky of the section of the city the public use. The upper half is actually a side view of the section of the city carved into an 8,000 mile long wall. Only horrors are on the other side. The elite live up there, as drawn by my group.

The pantheon was also made by the group today, using characters from old campaigns, canonised and baked into the setting. As I said, a lot of work. I’m currently uploading as much information as I can scavenge from my notes onto our Dungeon World/SCUP Obsidian Portal page.

I’m just preparing to run my first game of SCUP.

I’m just preparing to run my first game of SCUP. In my arsenal are the first session sheet, MC reference, a couple of Threat sheets, a big Mythology sheet so we can all scribble over it, five basic move sheets, one of each playbook, a large blank pad for maps, a small lined pad for my own notes, Houses of the Blooded Fate Points as hold and forward tokens. I have no idea what to expect from my players, but I’m excited to see what horrors they will bring me.

I’ve yet to get all the way through SCUP, but I have several intrigued players now, which is a good start.
