Courtesy of a comment made by Richard Rogers on a Jankcast about picking out outfits for his Hollow, I discovered Lookbook.nu . Often, especially for online play, I’m looking for pictures of the same NPC on different days, wearing different clothes. If your Monsterhearts students run to the pretty and glamorous, then you may find this a good source. Click on the name of someone you like for a character, then click on Looks to see them in lots of different outfits.

New categories

I’ve added new categories – one for rules hacks & scenarios and the other for resources for games.

Rules hacks & scenarios can be meatier things like Monsterhearts Dark Dungeons, or smaller things like an adjusted basic move.

Resources for Games is intended for advice and links to all the paraphernalia that we find useful to run games that isn’t covered by another category (i.e. no Skins, APs, hacks, scenarios etc.)

Monsterhearts Scenario

Monsterhearts Dark Dungeons is a one to three session self-contained scenario an MC can run for their players inspired by the movie Dark Dungeons.

For the freshmen at college, the Roleplayers are the coolest, most seductive, dangerous and sexy clique on campus. But beneath this dark veneer lies an even darker evil and roleplaying games are their gateway drug to tempt the virtuous to become their slaves.

Will your players fall into depravity or will they repent their sins, burn this evil and its roleplaying trapments, and be set free by the grace of the Lord?

The scenario is made up of a scenario book:

And three ‘skin tattoos’ that etch on top of regular skins

What would you like to see in this community?

I’d like to get an understanding of what we’d all like to see in this community. G+ only allows single response polls, so please vote for the one you’d most like to see and add in a comment below other choices for which you didn’t vote (or couldn’t because they weren’t listed).

Please note that there is no secret cabal monitoring this poll and vowing to effect change based on the results. I’m putting up this poll only because I believe it’s useful for us all to see what we’re all interested in seeing from this community. If you’re working on something that has few votes or isn’t a choice, do not be discouraged, keep working on it and post it up! If the poll results do inspire you to do something, however, that’s great. As ever, “To do it, do it”

PS APs are Actual Play reports. Text or recordings of people’s games.

Hi all, I’m the new moderator.

Hi all, I’m the new moderator.

Hi all, I’m the new moderator. For those who don’t know me I go by Epistolary Richard for most of my gaming. Aside from being a Monsterhearts fan, I’m also one of the co-ordinators of London Indie RPG Meetup. Monsterhearts made a big splash in London even before its Kickstarter ended and I’ve played around 25 different games of it, some at Indiemeet, but many running it at various conventions in the UK, some with hardened story gaming vets, some with folk completely new to this type of gaming. As I’ve commented separately to Jenn, one of the reasons that I was interested in this role was that, for me, Monsterhearts has had an impact beyond the rules written within it or the games of it I’ve played. I’ve seen it have an impact in changing our hobby, welcoming in a more diverse group of gamers and encouraging me to create and explore a greater diversity of characters.

As we are at Indiemeet, I’m a great believer in the Powered by the Apocalypse maxim of “To do it, do it”. If there’s something you’d like to see happen within this community then take the lead to make it happen. If there are tools that I can use to support you, then do ask, but I’ll be following your lead, not the other way around.

Finally, I was privileged to help support Avery in coming over to visit the UK and met them while they were over here (and am also the thrilled recipient of their rules on playing lacrosse and basketball in a game). My priority in moderation is to encourage an accessible culture of play. Communicating over the internet is always fraught with pitfalls so I ask that folk listen more than they speak and seek to understand rather than accuse.

A few Indiemeeters where talking about what skin we ourselves would have been as teenagers, and one person said “There really should be a Buzzfeed quiz for this…” and now there is! Do give it a whirl and share.

Myself, Alberto Muti and James Graham met up on Saturday to experiment with MC-less gaming of Monsterhearts. I’ve written up my take on the approach we ended up following for general interest. It’s a one page Reference Sheet designed to be used alongside the MH Player Reference Sheet (and replace the MC sheet). It’s not complete as it doesn’t mention Threats/Menaces (which could be subsequently added to a second page to make it a booklet). We discussed some ideas about those, but I don’t feel experienced enough to set anything in stone. Also, I had some problem with the MH font with its ‘o’s so they look pretty funny in this doc.
