Okay, FINALLY finished up my revisions and GM section expansion for my WoDu/ApocWorld hack, End of the World. Yeah, there’s probably gonna be some errors floating around, but hopefully it clarifies what needed to be clarified, and expands on what needed to be expanded upon. No longer makes it a true PocketMod, since there’s now three pages…but it’s still fairly portable.

…and, of course, the 1-ups, which are great for using on a smartphone. At least, so I think (as I don’t actually have a smartphone of my own).

And right in time, before the end of the year (alas, no end of the world this time).

  1. Michael Wight  Love it so far. The game really seems to do what it is supposed to. I think next time though, I’ll make at least part of the equipment list definable in the moment like Dungeoneering Equipment in DW does with checkboxes Reduces bookkeeping, speeds creation and you really don’t lose anything.

We are playing a virus type scenario (in Sydney) where people are dying of the flu. 6 days in, exponential growth has killed most of the population and the players finished the session in the foyer of hospital introducing themselves to what seems like the last 5 people on earth.

One of the players is a paramedic and both of the others were hospitalised (one as the result of a car crash) and both survived to be pressed into service as orderlies in the hospital. We narrated the players on “body duty” in the ambulance and them having to clear cars away and siphon petrol from them etc. One of the most fun bits was where we all took turns being the newsreader as the first few days went by. When I narrated the channels all going off the air there was a real feeling of loss.

I like the idea of the favours mechanic a lot. I think though that I’m going to change XP to a mark every time you use or every time you fail type system and hack in a version of strings for favours. I think personal leverage mechanics work well with the disaster movie trope.

BTW, if you want to see disaster done really well, check our BBC survivors. That show was awesome.

Sorry I didn’t see this earlier. Awesome AP. I think you are right about how equipment should work. That would make things easier (after three playtests of my own, I have found that the players spend on average 15 minutes thinking of things to have in their inventories…NOT what I had intended).

And should you do an alternate XP system, I’d like to hear how it goes.

And yeah, I watched the first couple of episodes of Survivors when it was showing on BBC America…what, a year ago? Maybe it was two years? It’s one of those things on my to-buy DVD list, right next to The Fades and ssn 2 of Misfits.
