It’s very random with only a light amount of rules bending to make it a minimal coding effort. [Things like holding off on the switching upgrade due to complexity.] I have a thing for random tables and the ‘challenge’ of making the pieces work. Feedback is always welcome. Thinking about features like toggle to make FTL mandatory and stuff like that.

A couple of examples…

Grav-Flyer – Sky Vessel. Fast moving plane/grav-tank, propelled by gravity engines.

Must keep moving. Can land and take off on prepared surfaces (landing strips). Low stability,

can be destabilized by harsh weather and environmental dangers. Will crash if gravity engines fail.

Tier I vessel has 1 section.

Upgrade 2

Upgrade 3

Reactor

Two reactors without other systems to use them? Oh, this is an emergency relief vessel that flies to areas damaged by hurricanes and other natural disasters. It brings medical supplies and provides electrical power.

—————- —

Starship – Space Vessel. Operates in vacuum, can enter and exit planetary atmospheres.

Tier I-II can land on any surface, Tier III-IV can land on prepared surfaces (landing pads).

Tier V+ count landings as crash landings. Vulnerable to hull breaches (decompression).

Type IV vessel has 4 sections. [helm, engineering, unassigned1, unassigned2]

Armored

Interplanetary orbital bombardment gunship designed with lots of black spiky bits to make it look as dangerous as it is. With shields, armor, and boosters, it is hard to take out. On board are two automated munitions factories to keep the artillery supplied with ammo.

In FBH under Vessels, it specifies which upgrades require reactors. But, under reactors, it also mentions shields. Is this a situation where both are right? Can you have shields without reactors? Can a crewman that assigns a reactor to shields either boost or replenish them after they are damaged?

Hey!

Hey!

Hey! I’m slowly accumulating enough knowledge to run my group’s first Uncharted Worlds campaign, and we’re organizing thoughts and ideas while our D&D campaign wraps up.

Basically, each player has rolled up a faction and I want to do a sort of behind the scenes metagame where each faction gets one turn/move after sessions that the others don’t know about, so potentially those conflicts or plot hooks come out organically in future sessions. How have you handled this in the past, or have you kept it vague to avoid putting yourself in a corner?

Also, because they wanted aliens and some Space Magic (even though half of them are robots) I made an uncaring Warp/Void/Star/Whatever that corresponds to each stat. Basically, updated versions of the Chaos Gods and a Machine/AI god for the Interface stat. Each time my players pass a check using a skill, that respective god gets a tally mark. Their competition will be totally behind the scenes, but depending on where they are in space or what should happen on a cosmic scale, their decisions will affect which great older one unknowingly devours them some day.

I’m sure I’m not the first to do any of this, what thoughts do you have?

I’m currently running a game set in the Babylon 5 universe. The players are an advanced party making sure a Moon is ready for a diplomatic party to arrive. While they have naturally met with some problems (mostly dealt with by ‘ahem’ forceful diplomatic measures. A couple of questions have come up that have made us all scratch our heads.

1 party member has befriended a local business woman (leisure sector) and has on several occasions called on her for help staffing functions. Having got on applicable he bit the bullet and out of game took the ‘Relate’ advancement. What does this actually mean? Has become the question.

Did he lose all the favours and debt, this NPC now being willing to help in all but the most dangerous of issues? Or ??

Mean while they are also dealing with mysterious tech issues and another character wants to call in special help, with a view of eventually adding them to their personal staff. Would I be right in thinking this runs the line of taking a debt with the crews normal managers to get them assigned and then later taking a ‘crew’ advancement from a career or the luxury one to get a personal assistant?

Thanks Richard

While I’m at it, where would various media aliens fall in FBH terms?

E.g., Star Trek: Bajorans, Cardassians, Romulans, and Ferengi are straight-up Humanoids. Betazoids and Vulcans are Evolved: both have the Telepathy skill to reflect their innate telempathic abilities. Klingons in TOS are Humanoids; after that, they’re probably Evolved with the Strength skill from the Primal career–or they tend to have the Primal origin and remain Humanoid.

So this came in the mail yesterday!

So this came in the mail yesterday! I have not gotten all the way through, but I’m mostly intrigued by the options to include mysticism in the game so far. Very cool. Looking forward to letting my players look through these additional options after considering their inclusion. 😉

I wrote up some alternate starship design rules to make them a little bit more in line with core book item creation, and group starting ship design, while retaining the fidelity of the new FBH rules. Critique welcome.
