Dear Patrons

Dear Patrons

Dear Patrons,

I hereby present you with a unique opportunity to behead Marie Antoinette herself for just a few bucks! It goes without saying that I suggest such an act not for mere bloody entertainment but to save countless innocent lives from the undead queen’s devilish intrigues! Satisfaction guaranteed!

In other words, I’ve just released All Heads Are Off, a two-layered mystery about a scheme of beheaded, undead French aristocrats. It’s available on DriveThruRPG:

Hello!

Hello!

Hello!

I have a campaign idea in mind and just started working on it. The basic concept is that sea creatures have been dying wherever the PC’s go. The dead marine life then turn into zombies and are attacking the nearby town where the Player Characters are living temporarily. The main monster I think is going to be a puppeteer who has cursed the PC’s in order to take revenge on the town for ruining her life in some way.

The problem I have is setting up the countdown. The main problem is that the Countdown is based on if the hunters weren’t there and stopped it. But I need the hunters as wherever they go, the problem occurs. I’ve tried this with past curses that the monster has put on different people but I haven’t thought of a way to incorporate into the story.

New Mystery: Burning Rubber! The Hunters are hurt, exhausted, and fleeing from both the police and an Occult Organization in a stolen vehicle. As they try to put the actions of their previous Mystery in the rear-view mirror, they begin to notice strange occurrences.

I wanted to create a road-trip style mini-Mystery to trial on Discord in-between our IRL sessions. Please feel free to use/adapt/share, and if you have any suggestions please let me know!.

My hunters and I are approaching the final mystery of an arc, and I’m having some trouble figuring out how to design it. The basic gist is that War, Pestilence, and Famine, (four horsemen of the apocalypse) have been sending monsters onto earth to hunt down and kill people. The one who kills the most gets to choose how the apocalypse arrives this time. The hunters have spent the last 3 mysteries hunting down each of their monsters.

I had a general idea that Death would need to perform some sort of ritual to “tally up the score,” before the apocalypse can actually take place. I didn’t have specific ideas, so I spoke with the hunters to discuss what they think would be an awesome last scenario. They came up with the idea of going into the underworld to try and stop whatever the ritual it is, either by freeing the captured souls or some other undetermined means.

Here’s where the questions come in. This seems like a fundamentally different plot than the normal mystery, as there isn’t specifically a monster to hunt down. I’m considering adopting the More Weirdness Phenomena rules for this mystery, but not sure where to go from there. It also has the hunters primarily in hostile territory, so I’m wondering if I should have some sort of stealth component / system to go along with it.

Do y’all have any thoughts/advice for how to set up a mystery like this? I’m happy to clarify anything I wasn’t specific enough about.

The local college campus had an epic rager last night. Sure, the dean banned Alpha Omega Omega from having parties, but they kept it on the DL and it was lit AF. Now the party has wound down and some of the party-goers are going to wake up with awful hangovers. Others are going to wake up as large, hairy, blood-thirsty monsters.

A mystery that takes place on a college campus, with every college stereotype plus werewolves. Enjoy!

Has anyone ever run a mystery with two unrelated monsters going at once?

Has anyone ever run a mystery with two unrelated monsters going at once?

I’m considering it for two reasons:

1. One of the player characters’ arcs / secondary story beats is going to come to a head when a bad roll at the right time opens me up to make a hard move and declare, “the stone in the ring cracks, releasing from within the old friend you thought was gone forever…” etc, generating a second ghostly monster that’s not a minion to the one already in play.

2. I have a large, unwieldy party. Usually a few people are absent, but there’s potential for up to 7 players. I feel like having two unrelated monsters (one planned as part of the mystery and one “randomly” occurring as described above) might be an interesting excuse to split them up and scale up the difficulty.

Wondering if anyone has experience with a campaign like that or thoughts.
