Special Moves: Sometimes the characters have sex with an NPC, but their special move only seems to give any effect if the other participant is a PC…
Does anyone (other than me) sometimes wish the special moves kicked in when a PC has sex with an NPC also? Has anyone made any modifications to the special moves to facilitate this? What would be the effect?
Plenty of them work on NPCs, if yours doesn’t, and it matters that much to you, pick one of the other playbooks, I guess?
In this particular instance I’m the MC, so picking another playbook is not an option 🙂
Its not an issue to me (certainly not something I think needs fixing as such) but in the cases of those playbooks which do seem only to work on other PCs, has anyone modified those moves to work on NPCs also? How did it work out? Just curious.
I’ve definitely seen talk of it, but never seen it in action. There’s definitely some stuff in the book that could help, the section about Hx with NPCs, etc.
If the situation is right it is totally legitimate to make the NPC a new threat with a custom move that reflects the special’s move’s effect.
In response to Drew Harpunea ‘s query, I’d like to point a light back to a source of inspiration for playbooks, Firefly. (Warning, not very important spoilers) In the episode ‘Heart of Gold’, Jane, the Gunlugger, has sex with many prostitutes and doesn’t care. His special has to do with forward, not something very noticeable but could be explained with the scene where one was helping him prep for a gun fight. Meanwhile, Malcolm the operator, had sex with just one prostitute (and probably wasn’t even an act of prostitution) his special would give him an obligation gig. Mal was pretty upset when that prostitute died, sounds like a failed obligation to me. On another episode, Janetown, Inara, the Skinner, has one one of her clients stand up to his father to help out the crew. Sounds like spending forward to work off a hypnotic to me.
David Rothfeder: Nice! Thanks!
