Here in my hardhold, Casa de YumYum, Dremmer and Joe’s Girl supply some kind of weird brown dust that tastes like smoke. Won’t say where they get it, but they call it “cumin” or something. We put it on our Apocalypse Corn.
What do the people put on Apocalypse Corn in your hardhold?
Spice soot and sometimes blood sauce (black pepper and ketchup)
Whoa. That’s serious business. I mean, I shoulda said, we also put on sriracha. We’re not savages over here.
Sriracha! Add a good-sized squirt to the melted butter, toss with popcorn, and enjoy. This is super tasty, to the point that our 7 year old’s friends ask for “spicy popcorn” when they come over.
Meguey Baker , isn’t that the official recipe for apocalypse corn? I recall reading it in the back of one of your husbands books.
Yes, indeed it is. And mighty tasty too. Curry power is ok, but it’s not quite the same. Ginger beer goes very well with either.
I should try that
The way the spices collide is really something. Delicious and weird!
I might be running a game soon, I might have to try bringing that for the first session.
Perhaps tangential but I find that chopsticks are a fine addition. Not only do you get really good with chopsticks but you keep your fingers clean in the process.
This batch, I did sriracha, salt, garlic powder, and cumin – no butter. Talk about collision of spices! It’s super-good.
Marshall Miller if I did that then it would really feel like an episode of firefly
Are you discussing popped corn here? Because this is the way to put crap on your corn: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elote
Boy do I miss Mexican street food.
While that sounds delicious, it doesn’t quite feel like apocalypse fare
Meguey Baker I know I’ve asked this before but do you make your own ginger beer? If not, favorite brand?
Keith Stetson have you had South-East Asian corn-on-a-stick? There’s some sort of sauce that’s just super-tasty. I can only ever find it at certain street festivals.
Marshall Miller, we have, but mostly we buy Reed’s. If we are feeling extravagant we go up to the local brewery and get some of their home-brewed ginger beer. They also make a very excellent root-beer and a great raspberry-lime soda.
Meguey Baker What brewery? Do they distribute to Boston?

I’m not sure if they distribute their home-brewed sodas, but their beers are in eastern MA, including 7 places in Cambridge.
I picked up a braggot by The People’s Pint. I’m excited to try it after our conversation about ginger beers.
