It’s the closest thing you can get to remote “mind control” i have found.

Yes, it’s awesome! As long as you don’t mind getting killed. Because who wouldn’t want to kill you? But it would be a rousing game!
I’ve seen this used in game and all the Brainer ended up doing was having to defend themselves from all the protagonists trying to kill her because she was making enemies at every turn with her power. But that’s not to say that every Brainer with this combo would be like that.
Brainers have gear that can help with dealing harm too. Just be careful you don’t accidentally do 4-harm to people you are trying to use other powers on…

When you are using the non-harmy powers on people you generally want something other than their gruesome brain-exploding death – which is why it phrases it as “without benefit” I should imagine!
And I don’t think those extra harm moves are optional once taken – it takes another move (from The Quarantine) to pull your punches.

Yeah, our Brainer took one +1harm move, and that’s bad enough! Even on a failure it’s still disabling to most NPCs. One really good roll on In-Brain Puppet Strings on an already-wounded NPC caused his head to explode! I thought they were lining up to get another +1harm move, but it turns out they’re showing a little restraint.
