Attended Gryphcon this past weekend in Guelph Ontario and ran 3 slots of Urban Shadows. It was a very fun experience with a lot of great players, almost all of which had no *World game experience. I learned a lot and need to put my thoughts and the player’s observations down on paper this week. All in all, I think it was widely enjoyed and I know I had a real blast.
Highlight of the weekend’s playtesting: half the group found a fairy princess who had been cast out of her realm and what did they do with her? Took her out for beers at a pub and then to the theatre to watch a RomCom, priceless!
So, some good feedback then?
Some. Because a lot of the players were new to *World games a lot of their opinions and comments were more to do with the style of this kind of game (asking lots of questions and giving them a free-form sandbox experience) rather than the actual game itself. The initial Debt set-ups were a great deal of fun and people seemed to really enjoy making their characters and setting up back stories together. Debts were well-liked but hugely under-used, which isn’t surprising with new players.
More than anything I learned a lot from the games as MC. Where players want to focus their attentions and what moves were most popular. That kind of thing.
Well, even then great feedback and knowledge for your next game at a con.
Totally. I have no regrets.
