So I had a thought while working on my AW hack… would hacks (especially setting rich hacks) benefit from a Character set of Agenda, Principles and Moves (covered in their playbooks and with Basic Moves)?

Choose a setting that you think this might work for and give some examples of player facing agendas and principals if you don’t mind. I think you have something here but I’m having a hard time imagining it.
I included a player agenda in Monster of the Week, as a shorthand way of describing what sort of play to aim for. There didn’t seem to be any need to unpack them into principles as well.
To me, the basic moves are already the player’s set of moves to use – no need to make an additional list there.
Maybe. I mean, players already have an agenda in AW. Its on page 96. Or 16 (I like that list better as far as a player Agenda).
Why not steal alignments from Dungeon World? Give players some setting appropriate agendas to choose from and then back that/those agendas up with XP.
That’s right – does it get explicitly called an agenda, or is it just “play your character like so”?
Its labelled “say this first and often” on 96.
On 16 its “why to play.”
They sound like solid agendas though.
In AW, I would say that those examples (pg 16 and 96) are more of player agendas. Now, the on pg 55 of MotW, that is more of a character Agenda that I was thinking of (thank you Michael Sands )
I noticed in my haste to type, it should say “Character/Setting Agendas, Principles, and Moves.”
So here is an example of Setting Principles:
Athas
Civilization has fallen to Savagery
Sorcerer-Kings rule the few crumbling City-States
The Desert has claimed the World
Fierce Monsters roam the World
Metal is Scarce
Arcane Magic defiles the World
The Gods are Silent
That is a good way to get the basics of the setting out in front of everyone.
yep, say this first and often
