I kind of want to call this The Dick Move

Predator advantage: when you touch a person, skin on skin, it doesn’t matter where or for how long, roll+cool to ask questions. On a 10+, ask 2. On a 7-9, ask 1.

• What is currently stressing you out the most?

• Who is most important to you?

• Where do you feel safest?

• What could I do to get you to trust me?

On a miss, your target sees the depths of your true nature and can turn a question back on you.

  1. Sounds too direct.  I like questions because they deepen the characters asked and give unexpected choices to the person asking.  This move just sounds like it’s meant for screwing with other characters, which reduces the feeling of choice.

  2. Yes, i just don’t think move should completely push a pc into being cooperative or malevolent. There are plenty of ways to be a dick in aw without needing it’s own move.

  3. I disagree. But it sounds like your objection falls within personal preference. There are plenty of ways to be a dick in ANY rpg without needing special abilities. AW provides a unique way of directing action since a playbook represents an archetypal role and this gives AW the nuance of having a playbook that fulfills a specific kind of role that you might want to introduce into a game. I’m currently in the mode of re-writing a villainous playbook, so I’m deliberately looking for ways to push specific types of conflicts into the very core of the character without just writing a character who starts fights, because anybody can start a fight.

  4. This express routes from 0 directly to Antisocial without any stops along the way. I think it’s an interesting move, but as written it sounds overpowered and risks removing the agency of other PCs.

  5. It sounds like you’re intentionally angling this move to do exactly what it says on the tin, and to each their own. I just think that as written it gave too much for nothing. Either tightening the outcomes (as above) or the requirements (When you demonstrate unexpected power… to at least justify the leverage) might make it more palatable for others.

  6. I was about to debate that by directing you to the Brainer, but upon comparison I just realized that I essentially re-wrote deep brain scan but without “time and intimacy” and with more definitive questions. Shit!

I think I might need to tweak the questions a bit to make them less definitive, but also weaken the effect (since all you need is a light touch – I want to keep it as a surreptitious move) and put in a double whammy for rolling a miss.
