I’m MCing for only one player, and we will adapt a bit of troupe style play to open the character base and play experience. Anyone have experience with that?

But for a one on one game you can probably whip up your own in a very satisfying way. My suggestion would be to build an r-map (or use this one) as a team so that the player has really solid connections to form bonds with. I would make it and then choose who the PC was going  to be from among the choices the r-map suggests.

I steer people clear of the Man playbook’s resource game for one-shots, but for one on one longer form I think it would be sublime. In contrast the Stranger, who is so good in one shots, is going to be weak sauce without other players.

  2. Thanks Jason Morningstar what we’re aiming at here is a short run game played marathon form over a long weekend. Enough to go through several seasons, get a good sense of the world an the relationships, and really try the thing out.

  3. One fun option would be to begin with the Child playbook and position that PC on the cusp of their thirteenth birthday, so do a season as a Child and then have them grow up.

  4. We’ve kind of kicked a character off, in pre-discussion last night. Man just arriving to make a new home and bring wife and child over, uncle with a complicated relationship to the PC, and a new wife that’s set-up to trigger the PC and cause conflict between them.

  5. He may be! I was thinking about that. The only thing we know about so far is that he abandoned the Man during a raid in Frankish lands — left him and a dozen others stranded hundreds of miles inland — and that he was one of the earlier settlers if Iceland.

  6. If your Man is late to the party the word in Norway – “in Iceland a man can have as much land as he can hold” is no longer accurate and  joy at the arrival of newcomers is wearing a little thin. All the good arable land is taken and you either need strong connections or a willingness to work for someone else to set up a viable farmstead.

  7. I was thinking that too, and that as such he has a role in staking claim to land there, and obviously embroiled in a number of self-interested plots and feuds with the neighbours.

  8. I’m fine with transparency in setup. Hell, given his relationship with his Uncle and his Uncle with his Aunt we can almost assume he’s going to be told a good part of this IC anyway.

Its once we hit play and people start getting axed in the face that the important part comes about.

  9. So far no murders.

I’m thinking that’s going to change soon though, as the situation just keeps getting worse.

When it bursts, black lightning and burning hail will fall.
