Any AW game I can Spectate or join in? I came to the conclusion that I need to play more, as a player.
I find that I am leading too much as a MC as an old habit that I am trying to break and part of that is that I need to play a bit more and see a diversity of how people MC.
There are a few podcasts that have posted recordings of their sessions. The Jank Cast, The Walking Eye, I think I Podcast Magic Missile.
I have a play by post game going you could join in on.
I need to play AW too…
dave ring, nothing against Play by Post games, but something I can never get into as I like the response I get from the human interaction of chatting over the net or ideally in person.
I hear you. Its definitely a different sort of experience. Barfing apocalyptica is easier, for one. But player interactions are tough with asynchronous play.
I’m hoping to get my feet wet with hangout games so I’d be happy to MC sometime.
dave ring, I am in the middle of moving, but I am def. interested and could bring a few quality players depending on your availability.
Sundays are best for me. 21st July, 11 or 18 August. I’d be up for either AW or Monsterhearts or Urban Shadows.
dave ring, I will check my schedule and put something in.
I will ask my players if I can record my game, our first session is this Friday.
Thanks Patrick Henry Downs.
dave ring, want to get something in the books then? I am thinking August 18? What time?
Sounds good to me. 2pm? Or 6pm?
Depends on time zones
Depends on time zones
Sorry, I’m in Eastern.
I am as well, so that is fine
let me check my schedule and get back to you. I think we need to see are we getting more Europeans or North Americans, because that changes the dictation of time.
If you guys are doing an AW game on hangout I’d like to join. Will be east coast TZ in Aug
I recorded audio of my Dungeon World game, because I forgot to do it for my Apocalypse World game, and I found that I lead the players. I direct them toward basic moves and I even suggest things to them, and these seem contrary to the rules as written, but in listening to the audio and reviewing my play style I have to say it’s the players’ faults.
The truth is that every player approaches the game differently and sometimes they are simply not aware of what they can or cannot do. Twice after I made suggestions the player responded with something akin to “I can do that?”
My advice, in retrospect, is to try not to lead too much, but don’t beat yourself up over holding a player’s hand here and there. Sometimes they’re floundering, and you’re the GM so I don’t think there’s anything bad about giving advice, suggestions, or ideas.
Patrick Henry Downs, it’s hard to do … isn’t it? Switching off old (but bad) habits, both as a player and as a MC.
