I have noticed that some of the firearm weapons, such as Shotgun and MG, do not have the ‘Loud’ tag.

I have noticed that some of the firearm weapons, such as Shotgun and MG, do not have the ‘Loud’ tag. Is there a reason for this? Is there a limit on the number of tags an item can have?

  1. According to the description, Messy is “cosmetic property damage, blood and

gore, barf or shit or other bodily produce, or some other kind of mess as appropriate everywhere”.

A Machete has the tag ‘Messy’, but a Machete is not loud?

  2. Tags are there to influence the narrative. Sure a shotgun would be loud but most firearms are pretty loud (and should be fictionally). What makes a shotgun interesting is it’s stopping power (Messy). In this case messy and loud go together because it’s a shotgun.

  3. Realistically, all firearms and the grenade should have the Loud tag, unless they have a silencer, which removes it. Obviously, shotguns, MGs and grenades cannot have a silencer.

I asked only to know if there was a limit to the number of tags an item could have, but missed it in my reading of the rules.

Also, the grenade has the ‘hand’ tag, implying that it can only be used within arms reach of the target. However, it also has the ‘area’ tag, making it also lethal to the user.

  4. There’s no limit on the number of tags a weapon can have.

Messy implies loud. Yes, even for machetes.

Hand means within arm’s reach or thrown by hand.

I probably should have had area imply loud too.

  5. I like to compare tags to traits from Burning Wheel. Sure, your shotgun is loud. It’s a shotgun. Any gun is loud, I mean, we know that.

But if your gun as the tag “loud”, it being loud is a big deal. When you shoot, they hear you from miles away, everything goes silent for a few second from shock, everyone within 30 feet hears nothing but buzzing and mumbling for a minute or two. There’s loud, and there’s the “loud” tag.
