That’s a really cool piece, Ed. Thanks for sharing it.
Hi Ed,
I can relate to much of what you said. Being creative in such a way and then throwing it forwards to be scrutinized by those who are very passionate about their hobby or particular game is no small thing. But you did it and that is to be applauded. OK, so perhaps some aspects of what you wrote may not have been in-line with the games perceived canon, but what the hell, it’s a game and it’s purpose is to have fun.
For me, creating an RPG or writing a hack for an existing RPG is about fashioning something which is absolutely perfect for me, in an imagined world which ticks all the boxes of all the things a world of a particular genre I think should have. Its me venting the stuff which bounces around my head most of the time, laying it down and applying rules to it. I’ve been doing this for a long time, perhaps too long, and my own efforts are not yet close to finished. And, if at the end of it all, someone else out there picks it up, likes what they see, and then actually plays it with a group of friends, then that’s a bonus.
For those of you who may be interested in what DOES bounce around my head, check out Dead Stop Walking here on Google+. If you like what I have done so far, cool. If not, then that’s cool as well.
Good stuff, Ed. It’s not easy putting one’s creative work out there. Glad it paid off for you, even if it was just once.
Nice I’ve been thinking about a game like this and now I’ve found yours…I’m going to read it an put it in my groups game queue Thanks!
+Ed Gibbs: I have a question…how do you handle the PC’s becoming infected? I did not see it addressed in the rules of your game. I am just wondering how you envision/handle such an event. Is the GM suppose to just declare a hard move “you are infected” or are we to assume that the PC’s cannot become infected just terrified, chased, exhausted, beaten and finally consumed…(both are good in my book).
Thanks!!
My intention was to leave it to the group. I wanted to leave mechanics out of it because I thought that would make things scarier…the players won’t have an idea when…or even IF…a single bite causes you to change. And if you keep it narrative, then the players never get to see the ZM’s hand. There’s no “saving throw versus zombies” or anything that they can clearly see and say “Welp, he blew the roll; we can definitely take him outside and shoot him!”
Of course, different groups like different things, so I think it would be easy enough to come up with a “fighting the infection” move or something, if that’s what the group wants…
awesome, a third obvious option. I do like your style.
