Here’s the latest draft that incorporates copy edits by John Adamus, and dev edits by Jonathan Walton up to Drives. I’m hoping to get the rest from Jonathan, and which point we’ll incorporate that feedback and put out a final document that people can playtest with. There are some big changes in this one and an absolute ton of tweaks – not to mention the new playbooks from stretch goals. Those have seen the least amount of time playtesting, so I wanted to get them out there as soon as possible to get as much feedback as possible.

Big changes:

– Limitations are far more streamlined and get more to the heart of what we were aiming for.

– Powers simplified and reworked as well to make more sense with defensive abilities.

– Tweaks to many of the moves.

– A ton of things I am forgetting.

  1. Great! One request, for future versions, can you somehow redone or highlight your changes from one revision to the next? Saves a lot on the re-reading.

  2. I honestly have no idea how to do that – that’s why I write a change log, but this one has way too many tweaks and changes to list, and we’ve been working on for so long I’d have to compare the versions myself. In short though, literally everything has changed if you count copy edits to the entire document 🙂

  3. If this is all in Word, you can turn on Track Changes, but if you’re not familiar with the feature it can be a bit of a pain to suddenly start working with mid-project.

  4. Fred Hicks Do the changes show up in PDF though? We hadn’t been working with it, but I’ve semi-familiar with them. I guess I could use it to help me track the changes and then highlight them in the PDF, or just send out word docs. We’re kind of near the end of the road here anyway though. Probably would’ve been something better to do from the get-go.

Tim Franzke Not so much that it needs it, just that it’s going to be used a lot so wanted it to be clear. Jonathan actually wants similarly long and numerous examples for all the other moves, so that’s one of the things we’re going to be looking at feedback to see if we should incorporate more of.

  5. You can (I think) print to PDF, and you can print to paper such that it shows tracked changes and comments, so I’d think you can print to PDF such that it shows it. I don’t know that it works with “save as PDF”, tho, which is a separate mechanism.

  6. Tim Franzke Cool, well most of the moves have been in open playtesting since the alpha stages, nothing new here except for examples, and even those have been there for a bit now. Have you had any confusion at the table?

Fred Hicks I’ve never tried that, I’ll check it out. I’ve printed documents while showing comments, so it might work like that, but I’ve never tried to create a digital copy. I’ll noodle around a bit in word and see what’s doable.

    Take Down Breakdown

While the trigger for Take Down is fairly simple – anytime you want to take down or deal with an immediate threat, you trigger Take Down. You can trigger the Take Down move by using any stat, as per the fiction being told as long as you are confront and dealing with a threat.

    should be “confronting” not confront.

can’t wait to dive into this, very excited for a good well thought out superhero AW-engine game.

  8. pg. 51

When a hero wants to do something outside the range of things they have written in their Powers Summary, the Push move is triggered. Just like a hero with inherent superpowers will trigger the Push move when they try to do something they have not listed in their Powers Profile yet. In this way, you can break out of expand your character’s wheel house and what they can do and not be limited by not having inherent powers.

    I think it should be….

In this way, you can break out OR expand your character’s wheel house….

  9. Hey Chris, this is great, but I’m going to put up a google doc for people to put up corrections and typos once the final dev edits come in from Jonathan. Then we’ll have a document to put everything in. I’ll make these changes for now, but if you wouldn’t mind holding off until I get the document up, it’d be much appreciated as this thread isn’t the best place for it. I’m glad you’re digging it enough to want to help us go through and get everything though! (And I’m going to make these changes)

  10. no problem. I only posted here cause there wasn’t somewhere else. will totally post on the google doc once it’s posted. what I glanced at this morning looks awesome.
