I think that’s a context-dependent judgement call. If they’re breaking character in a way that breaks the “fourth wall” for the audience, that’s generally Breaking Kayfabe. If they’re showing something new thats intentionally meant to complicate their character, that may not be?
When in doubt, ask the player “so is this breaking Kayfabe?” or “is this unscripted, or part of your act?”. Intention is super important!
