So, looking at the Immortal, I can’t help but wonder if Into Your Ken is a bit much, in terms of story hooks. As it is, you’ve already got the Session Start roll to generate a hook, but then the Immortal+GM have to deal with an additional hook every session? And if its anything but the first session, there’s likely the continuing story to deal with as well.
That just seems like a bit much. If it modified the Session Start move for the Immortal, that’d be one thing. But as a completely separate roll, I can see it being a headache.
I’ll be playing a immortal soon and I can see their corruption move being triggered a lot with both those start of session move.
Scott Arnone – We’re definitely interested in your feedback on this. Your suggestion to modify the Session Start move is pretty cool. We’ll have to see what playtesting reveals!
I love the hooks, and they are amazing to generate a session without any prep-work.
My first thought would be, if you want to keep the feel of the Immortal having lots of friends and enemies that can resurface, something like this:
Into Your Ken: When you roll during Session Intro, on a 10+ Hold 2 instead of 1. You can additionally spend the hold, 1-for-1, to:
~Establish an NPC of the spotlighted Faction as an old ally.
On a Miss, the MC holds 2 instead of 1. The MC can additionally spend the hold, 1-for-1, to:
~Establish an NPC of the spotlighted Faction as an old enemy.
Since the Session Intro roll already gives the MC the option of Debt, it still keeps that facet of the current Into Your Ken, and you get that enemy/ally vibe with the hooks already being generated.
Oooh! Good hack. Let us know if you try it out. 😀
We may replace the Wolf’s starting troubles in their territory for the session start too >_>
That’s an interesting way to avoid conflicting and confusing results. It also separates those folks out from the others in terms of political interactions. Let us know how it goes!
