I seem to remember a move/advance to move points from Young to Versed but can’t find it in the book…

Was this in the beta version / discussed on the forum as an option?

If it’s not still there, how do people find moving characters from one role to another over the course of the game – is there anyway for a character to ‘settle down’?

Thanks

  1. My memory is a bit hazy, but I think there was that option in the Beta, yes. Specifically, I think it was tied to the harm move, with wounds making you less spry, but wiser. I decided against it in the end, although I can’t remember why.

The current options are pretty grim. One possibility would be to add a “retire into old age” option to the advancements, but if I understand correctly, you wish to keep playing the “settled” character?

In that case transfering them to a new playbook is an available option in the book. Like, going from Woman -> Matriarch seems like an apt choice.

I tried to avoid most +1 moves and stat substitution moves because players in my group didn’t find them interesting.

I hope that answers your question.

  2. Gregor Vuga Thanks for the clarification. I’m just trying to get my head around it in preparation for playing with my group soon.

Specifically I was looking at the two playbooks with a lot of ‘youth’, the Huscarl and Shield-Maiden and wondering what their progression could look like.

LIke you say, the others seem to progress pretty naturally.

  3. The “natural” progression of those two would be to die in battle in most cases. It comes with their carrer choice, there’s no pension plan. 🙂

Otherwise whatever seems appropriate in your fiction story and where the player feels they might want to take thr character. A Shield Maiden might regress into a more traditional role, getting married and switching to Woman. Or remain that odd outsider and age from a valkyre to a norn, becoming a Seidkona.

But your original point stands, there are no default “aging” options for the characters.
