Listened to the most recent Steve Austin podcast w/Paul Heyman, which I quite enjoyed. One thing they talk about is how WWF/WWE was (and still is) a babyface territory, and NWA was a heel territory.
The difference between coming to see the hero win and coming to see the hero struggle is a pretty good one to keep in mind when booking your WWWRPG matches, I think!
Did he do another one with Paul? He did one about four months ago which was awesome.
Yah, it’s the Aug. 28th one. They talk about booking philosophy and why RVD ruled ECW and how they think Cena’s character should/could change in the post-Brock era.
Overcome all the odds (the Hogan model) vs do you want the bad guy to get what the deserved (Flair model).
never thought of it that way but yes that makes complete sense.
For sure!
A lot of people who pay way too much attention to wrestling (like me) talk about how the chase is more engaging than the destination.
the Hogan (and now Cena) model is more about the destination, being that top babyface guy and staying there.
the Flair model is more about the journey – what will it take to beat that final bad guy? how will the hero keep it when the odds are stacked against him? This was the Daniel Bryan story last year, too, which (I think) is one reason it was so great.
