Can someone explain what the phrase “Has someone here thrown their fortune in with yours?” in AW:DA rights means? I’m not a native English speaker.

  1. I believe this is “fortune” in the sense of fate or destiny, rather than wealth. “Has someone here chosen to live or die alongside you?” “Has someone here chosen to accept your fate as their own in this matter?”

  2. If someone has “thrown their fortune in with yours” it means they have joined you in something where they will share the same benefits or consequences as you. Their fortunes (good or ill) will be the same or similar to your own fortunes.

    The phrase is also very similar to “has someone joined forces with you” or “joined their forces to yours” although it doesn’t exclusively mean fighting men or resources. It can mean they join you in expending effort on attaining the same goal.

    So, it could be they join you in an activity or endeavour (a pilgrimage, the march to war, etc), or they join you in support of something (the rebellion), or in opposition to something (you join forces to fight the invaders).
