This move language is doable right?

When you throw the purple mushrooms into the vulcano of Amaz, roll+nothing.

[..]

If you are the Brainer, roll+Weird instead.

(or: If you are the Brainer, you may choose to treat this roll as a 10+ or 6-; your choice)

  1. I’m skeptical here. I can easily see the justification for letting a certain set of players chose to take the 7-9 result. But a choice between a big success and a failure puzzles me. There has to be a good reason for the player to choose “failure”. What fictional situations do you see where a Brainer would take the 6- result ?

  2. There is really not enough information here.

In the first example, the brainer would mostly succeed, since weird is his primary stat. In the second example the brainer would always choose the most advantageous result. So this begs the question, why would the brainer choose to fail?

So unless one knows the reason to fail the question cannot be answered…

  3. Interesting. I’m uncomfortable with having basic moves* that give special benefits to one particular playbook. Depending on your goal, I might hand out one move for each playbook represented when the PCs get to the volcano. Also, what about PCs who may have had the brainer playbook previously, or who have taken brainer moves? Like half-brainers, or whatever. I’ve never done this, but what if there is just one move, but you roll and add the number of brainer moves you have. OR add or subtract for each brainer move, if the desired result could be hit or miss.

    * basic moves in that they are available to all without improving or special purchase.
