Is there a fan-made Chosen archetype? It came to me that there’s a Chosen in Monster of the Week and Monsterhearts, but not here (not to say that there’s any sort of requirement, but it sparked a thought…). And maybe it doesn’t seem like a good fit initially…
…but I think a Chosen would make an amazing loose cannon in a city. They have a destiny; who do they make deals with to see that destiny through? Who tries to manipulate them for their own purposes? After all, a destined champion is basically a cruise missile for those who know how to handle them.
Hmm, once I finish revamping the Heroic Servant playbook, I may have to turn my eye to this.
Two questions.
1) What do you foresee this archetype doing mechanically that isn’t covered already by the Hunter?
2) How do you foresee spotlight-balancing an archetype whose main theme is “being the main protagonist of the story?”
I note that in Monsterheart, the Chosen Skin actually includes a warning that including it at the table will result in a major shift in game focus.
I think the Hunter covers it well enough. What does it lack that you’d like to see in the archetype?
Hunter should work fine if you maybe refluff a few abilities to make them more divine in nature.
The main thing I see that isn’t present in the Hunter is that notion of having a Major Power backing you up, that driving destiny. Like, it’s one thing to have a slayer running around, but it’s another to have a literal predestined figure making moves in the setting. If that makes sense? Refluffing wouldn’t do it for me, because the Hunter’s moves are about being more capable at hunting the supernatural.
I suppose going Hunter and taking some Angel moves might work. (It’s Angel, right? I don’t remember offhand.)
Andy Hauge What you could do with The Hunter is change faction from Mortality to Power as an indication that The Hunter has been chosen by a greater power than herself.
Well, that, or because they’re a bit of a pawn of Power.
