NEW REAL LIFE MOVES:
So I’ve played about 7-8 sessions of WWWPRG and I’ve found that Power and Work can be dump stats. The ability to use Look (and a strong understanding of your gimmick) or Heat (after a good promo) mean that puny non-technicians can go far!
Obviously, with four stats, having a deficiency anywhere should create problems. (With no problems, there’s no drama, and no drama means you’re playing TEW2015).
So in the interest of expanding moves, here are some new basics I think would be cool.
“Town to Town”
When you get ahead on the road with sheer grit, Roll +Power.
On a 10+, you outlast all competitors: you make the overnight drive, finish the five pound sirloin or get to the show despite a 102 degree fever. You gain +1 momentum and someone’s admiration, even if they don’t show it.
On a 7-9, you do it, but choose one:
-You’re shown a sign of your mortality
-Someone does it better than you; they gain +1 heat with you.
-A rumor about you spreads.
“This is my life”
When you show someone outside the business how much wrestling means to you, Roll +Work.
On a 10+, they see you in a new light: gain +1 momentum and their understanding.
On a 7-9, they get the message, but pick one:
-You tell them something about your life, before wrestling.
-You’re compared to someone you hate.
-An obligation is created about you and wrestling. What is it?
You’ve also played the Manager for a majority of those 😉 Not exactly the paragon of Power/Work
I agree with sentiment, though to be fair, Wrestling. It has always been about the Look and the Real. Few faceless technicians have ever made it to the top without backstage pull or hurting people.. And of the strong men that made it, the ones who succeeded did so by emphasizing their presense and not their strength
It was also true of the clown and the Provocateur :). And I agree that The Miz got a lot further than Lance Storm, I always make the trade in favor of “player options” instead of genre emulation.
I mean, in Japan or Mexico, work can get you over as hell, and plenty of people have been popular without breaking the 4th wall or potatoing guys in the ring.
One agenda for the Lucha/Puro supplement is to make Work more important for getting over. In American wrestling tho, really, the top stars have ALWAYS been about Look.
Adam Goldberg Yes, and I like where you’re going with the moves. They add player options and are genre emulating. However, they seem to only trigger “off camera” where mechanics of the game specifically do not apply.
I like idea of REAL LIFE moves taking place, “before the show” within the TOP OF THE CARD. Perhaps the person with the lowest audience rolls a REAL LIFE move before the episode?
(Real Life is a fruitful void! Make stuff for it, absolutely!
Lowest Audience makes sense for a roll on these. Because if you’re not answering 5000 tweets and doing a pizza commercial, it’s more likely you’ll ANSWER that call from your cousin or ‘make it up to everyone’ by working harder.
