Hey Lucha Libre fans!
What are some great things (shows/matches/movies) I should look up? I’m doing a lot of reading about Lucha but I haven’t seen much of it live. I’ve been striking out on trying to find, like, El Santo movies and stuff like that as well, but I imagine they have to exist somewhere on the internet?
Justin Phillips Tim Rodriguez
I’d love to learn about this as well!
If you have access to El Rey Network, you can check out their current show Lucha Underground. There is also a youtube channel as well.

The lucha suggestions of this blog are very good.

YouTube used to have at least some clips of the old luchador vs. (monster) movies.
I remember from my interview with him years ago that darren watts loves Lucha Libre.

Hey Nathan! Happy to pitch in- my Lucha Hero book has an extensive filmography. For online ordering, I used to order regularly from places like santostreet.com, but these days Amazon has all the high spots.
Send me a note privately if you want some recommendations!
Cub’s fan. good call Justin Phillips.
Thomas Greaves any suggestions?
I just remembered this article from the New Yorker, it’s a really good read. It’s about a prominent gay luchador, an exotico, who like the character in The Wrestler seems unwilling to stop even though age is pointing towards that conclusion.

Yes, gay and Exotico are not exactly synonymous. Fortunately the New Yorker writer is better than me, and that’s made clear in the article.
I’m by no means a Lucha expert, but potentially a good place to start would be the AAA When Worlds Collide PPV from 1994. It was co-produced by WCW, but it’s not on the WWE network. Some kind soul did upload it to YouTube, though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8E62n1PXsQ
.
Thanks everyone! darren watts I’ll be in touch.
