The game will be Monday nights from 10 to 12 or 1 CST. It will be set in the upcoming New Avalon setting and will consist of at least four sessions perhaps more.

  5. I can’t start til after I put my kid to bed so it would be perfect for West Coasters. Honestly, if more people would be interested on a different night I could swing that. 

  6. Hey! I could be down for that, is that 10am or pm? I’m guessing pm.

    If so, I would only be able to do it later on in June. I have to be up early on weekdays for a bit so that timing would be hard for me.

    Otherwise I’d be super excited to play :)

    Friday night or Saturday night would be better for me.

    Also my wife would probably be in too (I’ll check with her once we figure out timing)

  7. Honestly Sundays or Mondays are best because of schedule but if you guys want to play another day I can try and swing it. Also I mean 10pm to 12am Central just to be clear. I can honestly get a few more if need be but would like to do it for this community first if we have enough.

  9. I’m est, so it would be 11 for me, but if we do it once my wife’s done school I would be very much in. In two weeks we’d be good to go for Monday/Sunday.

  13. I’ll give you a quick overview because it might help with the setting:

    Cliff Harding was born at the turn of the century, in the 20s he was a construction worker in New York. A building fell on him but he survived. He went on to discover his powers of invulnerability and become the beloved hero “Paragon”.

    As he gained prominence he founded a superhero team who fought to save the world for many years. As he inspired the city, his powers grew.

    Eventually a villain emerged who destroyed the team in some kind of unknown cataclysm. Paragon survived but lost the memory of his legacy. This occurred in the 60s.

    Since then the world has all but forgotten about superheroes. Harding knows who he is, and knows about his history vaguely, but much of his former life is lost to him. He is now a middle aged security guard working various contracts in the city while he attends therapy sessions to deal with his feelings of depression and lack of direction.

    There are a lot of blanks in this concept, purposefully, so we can fill it out in play.

    His origin is My Legacy, where his legacy is himself from the past as he fights to rekindle the spark of heroism in himself and the world he loves.

    Invulnerability (Superman level)

    Minor Superhuman Strength (Captain America level – may scale up with his own self esteem)

    Immovibility (The Blob)

    Lost Powers – Flight (he lost this power during the cataclysmic event and is unaware he ever had it)

    My inspiration for Paragon comes mainly from Mr Incredible and from Bruce Willis’ Unbreakable character.

    I hadn’t defined a power profile or basic stats yet, but I’m thinking Protect +2

  15. Cool. The game will use the New Avalon setting which is a setting I am currently developing for release early next year. Your character should fit in well but it is a world that is very much aware of super heroes though they are no longer common. An event in the 60s predates any thing in the setting so everything else should work.

  18. So here is a basic run down of the setting. New Avalon was once the City of the Future. IT was home to the world’s premiere super hero team the Power 9 and full of technological wonder and opportunity. But nothing perfect can last. Wave after wave of super-powered tragedy struck the city, from demonic invasion to murderous enhanced serial killers using mind control to lead a fourth of the city on a murderous rampage. Finally, with its heroes worn ragged and possibly being the reason for the tragedies a new type of savior arose. Zachariah Newcastle, the disgraced, exiled ex-leader of the Power 9 returned and seized control of New Avalon’s criminal element. He then defeated the City’s most powerful hero, Mr. Universe, in open combat declaring that heroes brought disaster and will no longer be tolerated in New Avalon. He then basically divided the city, taking High Town under his protection and restoring it to its former glory. The rest of the city he turned over to his generals who have made it into a sort of playground for super criminals. He has hard rules that they must follow but basically they do whatever they want. Heroes are hunted and imprisoned, turned, brainwashed, or killed.

    So how set in stone is this setting, do you want us to add to it, or embellish it as we play, or do you have the world built as a fleshed out foundation?

    Also, how many people do we have set to go for this game?

  20. It wouldn’t be a very good PbtA game if players couldn’t effect the world. The setting is a jumping off point that we can change together. You can plug in to preexisting lore or rewrite it as needed.

    I was just thinking that this Zachariah Newcastle might have been responsible for the destruction of Paragon’s team back in the 60s too. He might me some kind of immortal, like Paragon. He might even be Paragon’s Nemesis. Paragon can be slowly piecing his memories back together about what happened back then. =)

  22. Okay, I’m writing up my hero profile and stuff now, I have a question about Zachariah Newcastle. When he was a “hero” did he have a hero name? Also, what are his powers (in a broad sense)

  23. So Newcastle is a legacy hero. His father helped found New Avalon in the 60s after the earthquake. Maybe Newcastle’s dad was the one? After he set himself up as a hero? In the orginal story he is just a scientist but having a sinister past could be cool.

  24. Also Newcastle is a hyper intelligent gorilla with advanced tech that lets him copy or drain powers and pretty much whatever else I think of. He is kind of the overarching big bad of the whole setting so not sure if we will really get to him for a while.

  26. I was hoping to play a super-archer a la Hawkeye. Ryan Hunter former Olympic decathlete, he later went on to join the US Army right after 9/11, & later the FBI after serving 3 tours of duty in Afghanistan & Iraq. He left the Bureau after his fiancée (a fellow FBI Agent) was killed by a superhuman agent of a Middle Eastern terrorist network.

    What was a leave of absence from the Bureau became the start of something else when he decided to hunt-down the kind of monsters that took her. Leveraging his contacts from the Army & the FBI, he began hunting down superhuman criminals & their allies. First making a living as a bounty hunter, but then more as an outright superhero when the local press dubbed him “Orion the Hunter”

    Do you think this will fit in?

  39. Totally. Star has school next week, but it’s over for the summer after that =)

    Also, she has a character in mind: Kitsune, shapeshifter. basically has the powers of the Japanese Kitsune legend =)

  46. So my computer decided to update and I finally got back on. We will officially start next week unless you guys want to jump on and talk about the world. 

  48. No worries. Kind of snuck up on me too. I will make us a community for the game and through up some info for the world then everyone can springboard off it.

  50. Mr dark, he is a fear inspiring terror of criminals everywhere. He is what will be in the shadows waiting if you transgress in new avalon. He is an undead sentinal that you just can’t put down no matter how many bullets you throw at him. The more you are afraid of him the more power he has over you and just in general

  53. Hey Guys, I’m so sorry. I didn’t really process that 10PM CST was 11PM for us. We can’t start a game at 11, it’s not going to work for us.

    We really want to play, but we can only really do it if we start at 9 for us at the latest. (8CST)

  56. So it seems we only have two now. We can still play if you guys want or if you guys know anyone who wants to play we can add them or we can play with the two. Or if you guys want to just call it a wash I guess we can. Again it will be fro 10 to 12 Central Standard Time. Which is 11 to 1 Eastern, 9 to 11 Mountain, and 8 to 10 Pacific. Might go later than 12 but I can’t start any earlier 10. If another night is better I can do that night. 

  57. I can’t play earlier that 10. Might could pull off 9 but that would be pushing it and couldn’t promise I would be on time. If you can’t make it I get it. Just wish I would have know before hand.
