Okay, it’s Round 2 on my “inspired by Fate/stay night” archetype! This time, I’ve gotten a much tighter focus since I’ve been watching more Unlimited Blade Works; the Heroic Purpose starting move comes directly out of that.
I decided to focus squarely on the Servant for this one; either you’ve got a mage-type in the group who makes for a good summoner, or maybe there’s something else going on with one of the players. (The Wolf summons an ancient hero? It could happen!) Failing that, there’s always the possibility of an NPC being your summoner. Any way you slice it, that should tie the Servant heavily into the group dynamics and the plotting!
This will serve me well in my (eventual) King Arthur game!
EXXU….CARIBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Lemme know how it winds up, should you put it into practice!
You’ve got some really great moves in here, really got my cranks turnin’ with this one.
Yaaaaaaaaay! I think that focusing on the Servant, instead of just folding them into part of the Master, really really opens up some cool space. And it lets me focus on the fact that the Servant is really, really out of place in some ways, especially when it comes to their Ideal.
I also just realized that there should probably be a way to rewrite your Ideal. Maybe a Corruption move?
Looks pretty cool, would definitely give it a go if I can find a game to join. 🙂
Made a small tweak to one of the Servant options (the Archer class-inspired one), because “your summoner has one less Debt” is far less interesting than “take +1 forward to disobey your summoner”.
I really like both this and your Master archetype. However, I’m curious about the Corruption move, Lair of Legends. I know it’s probably supposed to represent the Reality Marble some servants have, but I’m not sure it really works. It doesn’t serve as a way to add corruption, it’s basically paid for.
Maybe it could work like a sanctum, you can mark corruption or spend a debt on your Master to bring people into your marble where you can create something, like a legendary weapon, or an army of loyal soldiers to fight for you.
Chirag Asnani: Oooh, that’s an interesting point! My inspiration was from Fate stay/night Caster, who had a Lair of sorts; maybe there’s some sort of way to have an ongoing move. Maybe you have to mark corruption to bar a main character.
