Ok, hey guys. So, I’m looking to work out a Jurassic World/Park inspired game and am thinking of using monster of the week for it. But, I’m a bit mixed on getting enough playbook selection options going there.
Do any of you have playbook suggestions for the game? (no magic) Or what are your opinions on using MoTW as the System for such a thing?
The big problem here is that every playbook has access to magic by default, because of the Use Magic basic move. Beyond that, you could probably use the Professional, the Sidekick, the Snoop (i think that’s the name? the camera character), and the Mundane more or less.
Paul Beakley also posted a tiny Jurassic World hack somewhere on Google+ the other day, so that might be worth digging up.
I began doing a Hack for “Primeval” at some point in the past (it’s up on RPGG), but never quite finished it. I also got stuck on Weird/Use Magic, so I’m curious about other people’s thoughts.
Like, can you not just cut that basic move and use Human centric playbooks?or should a different system be used.
OR: just change it to: USE SCIENCE
I ran a Resident Evil style game that mostly worked by switching magic to science. It even worked with a Viral Infected as a monstrous. Most of the problems involved pacing without having as much investigation involved.
Overall, if you’re hunting something unusual and your heroes should have a pretty good shot of winning, Monster of the Week works pretty well.
