  1. Mo and I play two player, but it’s without PC mongomy and we split GMing duties, so it’s a slightly different beast. 

    Still, one of the techniques we focus on that may help is to make quality of NPCs instead of quantity. Some (though not all) of our NPCs are kind of like quasi-PCs. They don’t get the protagonist status, but they have the kind of depth of field you normally only find with PCs in games. By having them be deeper and more nuanced, and with changing agendas and multiple sides to their personality, it keeps us from having to make up too many NPCs, lets us focus on key players, and develop powerful relationships over time. 

    That way when we finally do kill them it really hurts.
