So, I’m making a quickstarter document for #cityofjudas  – i.e. for conventions.

First of all I am filling the playbooks with some basic info/choices already made for the players. The character creation process can take a little bit of time, and while I believe some players would love to customize their character further, an almost-already-made character can save up quite some time.

Pick the playbook, circle names and looks, answer the background questions, play.

I am going to complete the next characters hopefully in a couple of days. If you played any of these characters, or if you’ve read the manual, please have a look.

Let me know if you think by making certain choices for the players I might be taking away too much, or if you think this will work well for a single session, convention-style, adventure?

If you haven’t read the manual you can probably still comment at least on my choice of moves.

Second question: as a GM, what would you like to see in a document for a convention?

I assume you’ve read the manual if you’re the GM; but if this is your first adventure with City of Judas, would you like a couple of quick-starters for adventures?

And what else could be useful?

  1. Richard Sardinas  I will do my best to have it ready by then. When will you need it? (to have time to print it etc..)

And let me know if you have preferences for GM materials of any sort…

  2. I think that if it’s your first time GMing at COJ you’d probably like to have a short mission presenting the different factions at work (I mean Christianity Vs Judaïsts, Crusaders Vs people of Jerusalem) and some guidelines to depict the particular atmosphere found in Jerusalem. Maybe the best option for a one shot would be (as suggested in the book) to have a in media res mission ready? Maybe starting with the PCs protecting a prelate from the wrath of an angry crowd led my couple Judaïst priests? or having the PCs poping up in some place where a strange ceremony is taking place. Wasn’t it the guy they were looking for who’s about to be sacrificed? Well you get the feeling. In other words : something inside Jerusalem, something brutal, something that will take the new PCs by suirprise and throw them directly into the lion’s pit! That’s just my two cents!

  3. Richard Sardinas you will have the pdf before then, for sure.

I uploaded a new version (all the playbooks are already done, so that’s already a good quick-starter).

More important: I added a sample page for Jerusalem with some example locations and missions. Let me know what you think of that. Would it be useful to have more details? Or is this vague but inspiring enough?

Then I will move to the other pages (Acre, the watch tower, etc..)

  4. I waited for the Scout to be included since I’m most familiar with that playbook… I think the choices of starting moves are OK, as Fast and Sharp Blades can really get in the way of too many other booklets.

This brings the Scout more in play for collecting information and doing investigative stuff rather than it’s assassin side, which can be good to get the fiction flowing.
