Here’s an idea I’m going to working on for THE SUPPLEMENT (I’ll figure out a title at some point too).
Mythic Moments – these are 12+ results. The deal is, when you roll a 12+, you spend all your Momentum and make a Mythic Moment.
Like, say on Cut A Promo
– on a 12+, spend all your Momentum and create a Mythic Moment. Your promo becomes part of pro wrestling canon. Pick 1:
– Simply referencing this promo counts as Cheap Heat, for everyone.
– The bootleg of your promo goes viral. Gain +1 Audience.
– This takes you to the next level. Take an Advanced Role immediately (without spending an Advance or taking an Episode off).
I think once you have a Mythic Moment on one Move, you can’t have another one. Or maybe the threshold goes up (like, you need to roll a 15+ for a second Mythic Moment, then 20+, etc)
And maybe “unlocking” Mythic Moments is a promotion-level thing (like, once your promotion gains more audience then they become available to everyone).
Anyway, a thing for “advanced”/long-term play, both to add a new layer of cool stuff and to create a way to sink those big pools of Momentum that experienced players/characters tend to build up.
Thoughts? This is a nascent stage of an idea still.
-Do you mean a 12+ before spending momentum? That makes the most sense to me as it is in line with moves like Human Highlight Reel.
-You could consider limiting each character to one “Mythic Moment” until the promotion resets. That is less book keeping and allows the effect to be spread around more. It also gives meaning to the reset without imposing a hierarchy.
– I like the cheap heat and advanced role ideas, but spending all your momentum for +1 audience seems a bit pedestrian. What if you could use the moment to draw new fans for everyone and provoke a reset? This pairs well with my first idea I think.
In this case I’m not sure whether it should be a “natural” 12+, because then it’s incentive to spend those 5 Momentum you have sitting there all session. On the other hand, if it’s not a natural 12+, it won’t feel as special.
Yeah, forcing a reset would be good. I’m still spitballing the effects. I don’t think every basic Move will have 3 options, either.
If you’re going to allow spending momentum on it, I’d suggest starting at a 15+ for the first one. 12+ would be too easy.
Instead of having “get +1 Audience”, would it be better to have “your starting/reset to Audience goes up by one (max +3)”? That feels more in-line with the other two options, especially since a simple +1 Audience isn’t really a long-term gain.
Sean Dunstan that’s brilliant!
Aw shucks.
I know of a weekly game where you could play test these…
I’d just change it to: “When you roll a 12+ on Cut a Promo (without spending any momentum), you may spend all of your Momentum (minimum 3) to…”
I think YOU can get cheap heat from your own promos, if you continue on theme or use your Catchphrase. (Steve Austin is ALWAYs Austin 3:16, but to Vince he was the Rattlesnake, the Bionic Redneck, that asshole, etc).
I’d give it tiers:
For a 12+, you can get a mythic moment.
For a Natural 12+, it doesn’t count as one before the reset. (This means ANYONE could get one, and there’s a breakout factor, but the workhouse +3 technician won’t be able to cut a masterful promo from out of nowhere, and the Prima Donna Manager won’t put on a 5* match).
I think for everyone works on cheap heat, promo-wise. Imagine faces getting cheap pops for mentioning it or heels for mocking it (I can imagine Rock kicking into a derpy voice and saying ‘Austin 3:16 says I’m a candyass’ or something).
