Limitations.

Limitations.

Limitations.

The section talks about different kinds of limitations, from limits on their powers to alcoholism, but then only gives mechanical effects for “ease of fitting in,” and from the example characters I see that’s the only thing listed under “limitations” on the character sheet.

Am I missing something?

  1. The only limitation that matters mechanically is ease of fitting in but some heroes are going to have certain weaknesses, especially if they’re Superman-like characters and the EIC asks for ways to make situations dangerous (which is to say things can still be important to a character despite not having mechanical weight).

I didn’t bother putting extra limitations on the example characters except for the ease of fitting in because ease of fitting in is all that is needed to determine powers stuff. Anything beyond that should be personalized by the player, like Bonds (why I also didn’t write in any details for Bonds).

  2. OK, that seems pretty straight forward, but in Advancement and Achievements, it talks about spending 3 AP to remove limitations you put on your powers and having to lower your Bond Threshold by one as a result.

That seems kind of harsh for removing something that didn’t give you any mechanical benefits in the first place. That’s what made me think I must be missing something somewhere.

Full Disclosure: we house ruled that if you wanted to fit in, then you had to take limitations. If you didn’t take any, then you were going to be “actively ostracized” and for each one you took you’d move up one level on that chart, so you’d have to take three to just have “occasional” difficulty.

  3. John Mehrholz  Yeah, that’s a holdover from when the limitations system was a lot more robust, it’s a bit too abstracted now by just saying how well you fit in so doesn’t make as much sense. That’s an interesting way to account for the Supermen, I like it!
