Hi. I was wondering if there’s any official or unofficial one-shot scenario, or in alternative if anyone has got good advice on how to best showcase the game and its fun in one session.
I’ve been asked for a demo, and while I’d be comfortable starting a campaign, I’m not sure how to make sure my players don’t miss too much of the game.
It would be cool if there were something like Blind Blue & Hatchet City for Urban Shadows. Don’t know of anything personally though. Maybe Mark Diaz Truman or Andrew Medeiros knows of such a thing?
No idea on a scenario, but the advice in the book is good: Page 235. Basically, start in media res, make your moves harder, and make different threads tie together
If you need a rough premise for a bigger plot, power vacuums seem to be a really easy starting point without doing a ton of prep. X was in power until X died, and now Y and Z are vying for control.
Both major Urban Shadows campaigns I’ve been in started with that schtick, but went in radically different directions.
Sean Hess points out a great resource on page 235.
My go-to con scenario is a note I took from Monsterhearts: throw a party. I usually declare that there has been a recent cease-fire between two powerful groups in the city and a third party is hosting the signing of that accord and invited all the city’s elite to witness it.
“So who are you in the city and why did you get an invite? You didn’t, then why are you crashing?”
Tends to go well, players latch onto an objective pretty quickly and things spin out of control in no time. 😀
Andrew Medeiros Hah! My last Monsterhearts game turned into a kegger at Moose’s dad’s dealership show floor. It was fine until the Serpentine spiked the punch with Essence of Stheno, It went south from there.
I may be working on a set of them, but considering the speed with which I develop material it’s probably not worth waiting.
Though I have suggested to Andrew Medeiros we playtest it at this convention coming up….
And he agrees! 😊
Thank you! ^_^
If that convention is Metatopia, I’m going to be there…
