Hey folks, i’m preparing to run my first session of Masks tonight, and trying to wrap my mind around a few things.
One big one – what’s the deal with Adult Moves? Presumably the GM never rolls dice, and the Adult Moves call for rolls, so are these usable by our PC heroes?.
Is there a mechanical trigger to open these moves up? Or are they just generally available whenever fictionally appropriate?
thanks!
There’s an option in the advancement section where you can take an adult move.
Hi! Adult Moves are indeed moves that characters roll – however, they are locked at the beginning of play. If you look at the character playbooks, unlocking some of the adult Moves is an advancement option – growing up and advancing, you can get the clarity and maturity to act like an adult superhero, and get access to those moves!
I think they are locked for everyone excepting The Nova.
Ah, thanks much Chris Woods and Alberto Muti ! I get tunnel vision sometimes, and while i’d even noted the advancement section, it didn’t click in my head….
please pardon a silly oversight, and thanks for the quick response!
I didn’t get the impression they were unlocked for the Nova either, didn’t miss something?
I just double-checked the v2 playbooks, and The Nova can unlock them. Maybe an earlier version didn’t let the Nova take em?
good luck, Andrew Fish !
The Adult Moves are available as advancements for the PCs after they’ve gotten through some of their basic advancements. They aren’t for NPCs at all. 😀
Thanks Richard Rogers ! I’m looking forward to it!
Magpie Games – figured they weren’t for NPCs, but I got so sidetracked i didn’t draw the connection to the clearly listed advancements…. I think my high hopes for the session has me nervous. It’s like Prom all over again, with slightly more spandex and collateral damage.
The adult moves are for the PC’s once they’ve unlocked them.
Also, there’s a Doomsign that lets the Doomed use an adult move.
Great. Somehow the other people’s responses didn’t show up before I posted mine. 😛
Good luck with your session; let us know how it goes (or maybe how it went, at this point)!
