New to the game. Thinking you would need something that granted temporary Moves for the potions they use. Could be handled like spells or even like ammo.
+Raphael Oliveira There are a few approaches to this. The first like like Matt mentioned was to grant temporary bonuses, would be to simply use the potions from the Alchemist class.
With it you can make any number of potions. And they last for the scene. Simple.
Alternately, there are a few playbook a from Monsterhearts that could show some possible moves or ideas.
I’ll keep an eye on this chat, but feel free to tag me for any help 🙂
Anton Dominic thanks. I will check de alchemist. But actually I meant the whole feel of the setting, not just a witcher playbook. And not wanting because I dont like its d&d homage (stats, hp and such)
Raphael Oliveira When you say “not the whole feel of D&D, stats and all included”, what exactly do you mean?
It is early and may have misread, but it sounded like you are looking for a version Without hp, stats, etc??
Anton Dominic something like that. I mean, the whole moves and stats and clock of aw sounds way more grounded and gritty to do a dark fantasy setting than dw (that is more heroic and stereotyped, and boring vancian magic too)
Raphael Oliveira well my suggestion to make it simple… Would be to:
1- “ban” magic classes (Mage, priest) maybe not bard or paladin (simply reflavor the text)
2 – borrow the clock for damage
3 – translate damage as follows
1d6 = 1harm, 1d8 = 2 harm, etc
Alternatively, go with Monsterhearts. Then instead of any “magic” reflavor any moves you think seem to venecian.
I think if you go with any others, you could potentially run into other problems?
If you’re looking for PbtA with a “gritty” fantasy feel, you might find Heartbreaker World (linked below) closer to your needs than DW. It’d take a fair amount of work to specifically get a Witcher feel to it. You’d probably at least want a new playbook.

Or just play apocalypse world, and reflavor vehicles as horses, guns as crossbows or bow and arrow, psychic as magic
And then import the starting alchemist move: Potions
As a special new basic move players can use.
Not trying to shutdown hack discussions in the least though, I LOVE hacks and hacking this game.
But basic AW is extremely versatile with even the most mild changes/a custom move/reskinning existing moves.
I’m in a game where I play a Chopper as an Alpha werewolf…
Another set on a moon of Titan where I’m basically playing Riddick the battlebabe…
And another that is basically Fallout, but with magic instead of nuclear war, and my gunlugger is a battlemage…
Pbta games and hacks are more about theme and tone than ‘genre’. With that in mind:
DW is dungeon crawling and heroic fantasy. It is optimized for that.
AW is about a world in chaos, never having enough, and fighting over what’s left.
So from that perspective AW is basically The Witcher already.
Another suggestion:
Give everyone the option to design their own single weapon using the Battlebabe rules. But to keep it fair, only the battlebabe gets to have two custom weapons.
URDNOT REKT Very well said =D

If you’re searching for some dark-fantasy AW hack, you might want to look into City of Judas. You can download moves and playbooks here: http://www.daimongames.com/judas.html
Then if you like them, you can check out the full manual. It has a different setting but I guess you could make it work with little customization.
